CD Box Set

A ten-CD compilation including five Pink Floyd shows from pivotal years in their development, 1970 through to 1974. All decent recordings for the era, they contain plenty of takes of songs from A Saucerful of Secrets up to Animals, and give a good mix of the Floyd's work.

Ekseption is a Dutch band that was famous during the late sixties/early seventies for the way it combined themes from classical composers with contemporary rock and jazz in a blend of dominating, virtuoso keys and trumpet plus sax(es).
The band came as close as any group from the European continent ever did to stealing the thunder of early classical rock outfits such as the Nice and rivaling the early work of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. In Holland, they charted singles based on classical compositions and released successful concept albums, and were - along with Focus - the top progressive rock band in the Dutch-speaking world.

Box set containing a compilation of great piano concertos performed by the pianist Van Cliburn. It includes, amongst others, 'Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor, Op. 23' by Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky, 'Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18' by Sergei Rachmaninov, 'Concerto No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 15' by Johannes Brahms, 'Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16' by Edvard Grieg, 'Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37' by Ludwig van Beethoven, 'Concerto No. 1 in E Flat Major' by Franz Liszt and 'Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Op. 26' by Sergei Prokofiev.

The edition comprises 33 CDs and 1 LP with previously unreleased recordings (Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Vladimir Krainev and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov; and Vocalise orchestrated by the composer and performed by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitri Kitaenko).

Riccardo Chailly is a dynamic and sometimes controversial conductor known for his devotion to contemporary music and for his attempts to modernize approaches to the traditional symphonic repertory. His many recordings for the Decca label include modern masterworks by Zemlinsky, Hindemith, and Schnittke, the symphonies of Gustav Mahler, and a number of operas.
