Four decades after its release, this is still the most controversial record in Yes' output. Tales from Topographic Oceans was the place where Yes either fulfilled all of the promise shown on their previous five albums or slid off the rails in a fit of artistic hubris, especially on the part of lead singer Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe, who dominated the composition credits here. Actually, the group probably did a bit of both here across 80 minutes of music on a fully packed double-LP set; the group's musical ambitions were obvious on its face, as it consisted of four long songs (really suites) each taking up a side of an album, and each longer than the previous album's side-long "Close to the Edge."

2007 digitally remastered 2CD set of complete tapes recorded for the BBC between 1976-78: a phenomenal debut for "It’s Rock’n’Roll", 3 memorable John Peel Sessions and a great trio of "In Concerts". Following the premature demise of legendary Rock’n’Roller Johnny Kidd in a 1966 auto smash, The Pirates’ were silent for a decade. In late 1976, the trio of Mick Green, Johnny Spence & Frank Farley regrouped for a one-off gig "for old time’s sake" and found that all the old magic was intact. They tried it out before a paying audience at Dingwalls, and within weeks were being hailed by NME’s Roy Carr as the best live band on the planet, a reputation they spent the next few years justifying. Regularly namechecked by Dr. Feelgoods’ Wilko Johnson as his major influence, they carved out a massive live following. Indeed, they were at their best onstage. Includes a booklet annotated by It's Rock N Roll host Geoff Barker with plenty of rare pics, memorabilia and exclusive interview material.
