It is fulfilling to attend a Carmen Souza concert just to listen to her breathtaking version of “Donna Lee” alone. However, there is much more to fall in love with than Miles Davis’ chart that Charlie Parker made famous by the singer on Live at Lagny Jazz Festival. Whether it is being mesmerised by her version of the standard “My Favourite Things,” or falling prey to the charms of the magnificent chart of that other famous son of Cape Verde, Horace Silver’s “Son of My Father,” or by Ms. Souza’s and Theo Pascal’s own “Afri Ka,” the effect is the same: breathless. For Carmen Souza is one of a kind - an original as rare as a throat singer and as exquisite as a vocalist who combines the best of Billie Holiday and Elis Regina - whose time has certainly come. Carmen Souza’s star is certainly on the rise…

The same year that Blues Creation gave us their amazing second album DEMON & ELEVEN CHILDREN, they recorded this collaboration with Carmen Maki. While it's not as consistently great as the aforemntioned album, it is a damn good seventies hard rock record…

The power pop world lost a legend in March when it was announced that Eric Carmen - the Raspberries frontman turned soft-rock hitmaker of the '70s and '80s - passed away at the age of 74. Now - on the eve of what would have been his 75th birthday and a special tribute to his life and career from the city that raised him - Legacy Recordings today issues a trove of rare and unreleased recordings from his beloved solo career. And Now, Eric Carmen: The Arista Archive collects 25 demos, single versions, live tracks and studio outtakes (including three heard here for the first time) to offer an alternate look at Carmen's career as he launched radio hits like "All by Myself," "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," "She Did It" and "Change of Heart" in the '70s; then, after a long period of quiet after a one-off album for Geffen in 1984, a last burst of hits in the thunderous Top 5s "Hungry Eyes" (from the bestselling soundtrack to 1987's Dirty Dancing) and "Make Me Lose Control," co-written with songwriter Dean Pitchford, with whom he'd penned the hit "Almost Paradise" for Loverboy's Mike Reno and Heart's Ann Wilson to take into the Top 10 from 1984's Footloose soundtrack.

If you are making a shortlist of the best jazz singers, Carmen McRae had better be right at the top. She had a distinctive voice, able to do heartbreaking and lighthearted equally as thrillingly. She had an unerring sense of melody and her phrasing is a thing of beauty. This collection covers her work in the mid-'50s for Decca both with small groups and larger orchestras. She shines on swinging tracks like "Comes Love," "Falling in Love With Love," and "I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket" and won't leave a dry eye in the house with her deeply emotional ballad singing.

Three CD box set featuring all the albums recorded by the unique Progressive Rock band Carmen between 1973 and 1975. CARMEN initially came together in Los Angeles as seven-piece band formed by guitarist DAVID CLARK ALLEN and his sister ANGELA ALLEN in 1970. The band's unique style blended both Progressive Rock and Flamenco styles, with Angela Allen also being an accomplished Flamenco dancer aside from being keyboard player. Despite interest from music mogul Clive Davis, the band failed to make any headway in getting a record contract they relocated to London in 1973. The Allens soon assembled a new line-up of the band with Flamenco dancer and vocalist ROBERTO AMARAL and British musicians JOHN GLASCOCK (bass) and PAUL FENTON (drums). Their unique live performances soon came to attention of DAVID BOWIE who became a friend of the band. Famed producer TONY VISCONTI produced the band's debut album 'Fandangos in Space' in 1973. This was followed in 1974 by the album 'Dancing on a Cold Wind'. Carmen undertook extensive touring and appeared on the Midnight Special US TV show with Bowie before parting company with Tony Visconti. The band's last album, 'The Gypsies' appeared on the Mercury label in 1975 in the USA and Japan, following it's release Carmen disbanded with John Glascock joining JETHRO TULL. 'The Albums 1973-1975' gathers together all of these albums, serving as a fine introduction to the music of a unique Progressive Rock band.
