Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock n roll. But it wasn t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical tells the inspiring true story of King s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music; she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

Since penning her first number one hit at age 17, Carole King became one of the brightest musical talents of all time, first as a songwriter for other acts and then as a groundbreaking and history-changing solo artist. King started out as a songwriter in the legendary Brill Building in the late '50s, composing hits like Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion," the Drifters' "Up on the Roof," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," which the Shirelles scored a number one hit with, and countless other songs that would help shape pop music throughout the '60s. King eventually applied her gift for songcraft to her own albums, reaching new levels of artistry and commercial success with 1971's landmark Tapestry.

is an album by American singer-songwriter , released in 1973. At the time of its release, it only reached #6 on the Billboard album chart, but has remained highly regarded by her fans over the ensuing decades. Presented as a sort of song cycle, the album opens and closes with two versions of the title song and the songs on each side segue directly into one another. The Spanish language track (the Spanish word for "heart," also used as a term of endearment, as in this song's lyrics) was a moderate hit single from the album, as was The flip side of the latter single, (not the hit), charted separately from its A-side.

The word ‘legend’ is thrown about so nonchalantly these days that it’s lost a great deal of its shine. But there are still some artists for whom the word is far too feeble. Not many. But Carole King is definitely one of them. Ms. King is one of the truly indelible voices of rock and roll. In the 1960s, along with one time husband Gerry Goffin, she penned a string of unforgettable hits for other artists that reads like a roster of some of the best pop/rock tunes ever recorded: “Chains”, “The Locomotion”, “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman”, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and “Up on the Roof” are just a few. In the 70s, with some encouragement, she decided to put some of her songs to record herself.

is an album by American singer-songwriter , released in 1979. Continuing on a downhill curve, this record did little for 's career. Recorded in Austin, Texas with a group of musicians who had been backing at the time, the main failing is that King doesn't play piano on any but three tracks, and then not as well as she's been come to be known.

"Writer" is the debut album by Carole King and was released in 1970. King already had a successful career as a songwriter, and been a part of The City, a short-lived group she formed after moving to Los Angeles in 1968. Tracks on the album include "Up on the Roof" which was a #4 hit for the Drifters in 1962, and "Child of Mine", which has been recorded by Billy Joe Royal, among others. The album did not receive much attention upon its release, though it entered the chart following the success of King's next album, "Tapestry", in 1971. Reviewers rate it positively if not as highly as "Tapestry", one noting that it was the "most underrated of all [her] original albums". And, in a review that also covered "Tapestry" in Rolling Stone, Jon Landau wrote, "Writer was a blessing despite its faults" and that though the "production was poor", King herself made the album "very worthwhile".
