This is the second album to be recorded by Salisbury Cathedral’s John Challenger, following 'Elgar from Salisbury' which was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. In this new album, Challenger plays major organ works by the nineteenth-century composer and founder of the French Symphonic organ school, César Franck. The programme includes Franck’s Pièce Heroïque, the Prelude, Fugue and Variation, along with the gigantic Three Chorals for Organ, which Franck composed in 1890, immediately prior to his death. The romantic sounds of Salisbury's famous and iconic pipe organ of 1876, along with the unique acoustics of Salisbury Cathedral, are a perfect match for this repertoire.
