The crowning achievement of Orson Welles’s extraordinary cinematic career, Chimes at Midnight was the culmination of the filmmaker’s lifelong obsession with Shakespeare’s ultimate rapscallion, Sir John Falstaff. Usually a comic supporting figure, Falstaff – the loyal, often soused friend of King Henry IV’s wayward son Prince Hal – here becomes the focus: a robustly funny and ultimately tragic screen antihero played by Welles with looming, lumbering grace. Integrating elements from both Henry IV plays as well as Richard II, Henry V, and The Merry Wives of Windsor, Welles created a gritty and unorthodox Shakespeare film as a lament, he said, “for the death of Merrie England".

Also included are Wind Chime atmospheric samples, some of which were processed with Granular Synthesis for an other-worldly quality. Programming includes velocity cross faded articulations, layered pads and flexible key mapping.

“Chimes of Memory” is a diverse collection of works by the Danish composer and musician Fuzzy (b. 1939). In the title work, recorded on a historic digital audio workstation at the Danish Radio, Fuzzy gazes deep into the well of memory. In the other works we meet magnificent organ music written for the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris alongside witty, experimental and dream-like sounds played on saxophone, harp and, not least, the composer’s beloved old grand piano before it ended its days beneath the stars at the Copenhagen waste incinerator.
