Schlarb Family White Christmas Album is a 2009 Christmas EP by musician/producer Chris Schlarb and his family, a mixture of his family members as well as students he teaches. It is also a Beatles tribute in honor of songs from their 1968 album The Beatles, better known as "The White Album" as it was its 41st anniversary when it was released on 22 November, 2009. It focuses on Paul's song because Schlarb feels Paul is the best. He also made this after the popularity of the first Schlarb Family Christmas Album released in 2008.

On May 13, 2000 the Chicago Underground Quartet played one of the most searing and transcendent sets of music I’ve ever witnessed, as part of the Empty Bottle Festival of Jazz & Improvised Music. Cornetist Rob Mazurek, guitarist Jeff Parker, drummer Chad Taylor, and bassist Noel Kupersmith performed with a fiery singularity of purpose, ripping through its set like a bulldozer, albeit a machine marked by nuance and soulfulness. The following year the same line-up—which had previously made two albums for Delmark as the Chicago Underground Trio despite, with Parker nominally billed as a guest—dropped its eponymous debut on Thrill Jockey, serving up one of the strongest entries in the city’s modern history. Little did anyone know it would be nineteen years for the follow-up to surface.

Records like Psychic Temple IV aren't made anymore. Maybe they never were. There is a magic present that some mistake for "tubes" or "tape" but it's no more complicated than putting the right musicians together with the right songs.

"There is no double album that would not be improved by removing it's worst songs and making it a single album…" With these words, Psychic Temple mastermind Chris Schlarb set out to prove himself wrong. Here's how he did it.In the modern history of rock music, the double album stands as the ultimate creative indulgence. A moment for an artist to make their grand statement amid the excess of four sides of vinyl. And yet, there is not one double LP that escapes the curse of filler: "Wah-Wah" on All Things Must Pass, "Night Flight" on Physical Graffiti, "Piggies" on the White Album, "Angel" on Tusk, etc. In 2016, Schlarb opened BIG EGO, a commercial recording studio in the same Long Beach neighborhood he grew up in.

David Lord is a six-string anomaly, a genuine diamond in the rough. Operating in the bubble of Wichita, Kansas has allowed him to pursue his idiosyncratic muse with impunity. Over time in his search and discovery missions with his chosen instrument, he has cultivated a wholly unique vocabulary that is devoid of any direct influences while showing kindred qualities to such guitar renegades Derek Bailey, Joe Morris, James “Blood” Ulmer, Dom Minasi and Ben Monder, none of whom Lord has checked out to any extent. What the 36-year-old guitarist presents here — his first recording under his own name after 15 releases under the name Francis Moss and with indie-rock bands The Wonder Revolution, Miki Moondrops and Solagget on his own Air House Records label — is so delightfully weird and wonderful, so refreshingly original that it stands as his own personal manifesto for an alternative six-string expression, just as fellow Midwesterner Pat Metheny presented 40 years ago on Bright Size Life.

Prism Mirror Lens is an exquisite example of what happens when two consummate group collaborators are given the space to establish their own language. Veteran Bay Area composer and reeds improviser Philip Greenlief has a gift for intense intimacy and exploring the saxophone’s sotto voce registers. The Baltimore-based Susan Alcorn has transformed her pedal-steel guitar into an orchestra capable of lyrical tapestries and pointillistic details. They both have ears sensitive enough to elevate any musical setting they’re dropped in, from ecstatic bluster to quiet tenderness. Together, they’ve created a startlingly poignant album that showcases free improvisation’s ability to arouse meditative deep listening.

The brand-new solo album from The Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn, released in tandem with his memoir. Make It Right is a commentary between literal and metaphorical ruminating – a dialogue between memoirist and musician - a vulnerable, more reflective Wynn than previously heard.
