'After Hours'; 'Piano Moods'; 'Brad Gowans and his New York Nine' plus radio transcriptions, plus three tracks from 'The Jazz Keyboards' plus several tracks from the 78 era. Joe Bushkin plays jazz from the old school having come up in the late thirties where he began playing at the Famous Door on 52nd Street, New York before going on to play with the likes of Bunny Berigan, Muggsy Spanier, Eddie Condon, Bud Freeman, Tommy Dorsey and Louis Armstrong to name but a few greats! Across our selections Joe can be heard playing with the likes of Barney Kessel, Harry Babasin, Buck Clayton, Jo Jones, Sid Weiss and Morey Feld. All three albums plus have been digitally re-mastered.

It's like suddenly stumbling across new country: so much to explore, a Place To Be as Hiromi once so felicitously titled one of her projects. Jackie McLean affords the listener many pleasures.First, his balance of feeling and sensibility. Jackie is very much the Romantic, probing, adventurous, dynamic. Second, his gift for improvisation is very painterly. The pictures he creates in the listeners mind are fresh and repay repeated focused listening. Thirdly, his sense of drive and swing is flawless-the man can pivot from figure to the next with a lithe athletic grace. Fourth, Jackies improvisations are like the best modern poetry, full of the sound of surprise.

Via interviews with surviving members of The Doors, archival clips and insider insights, this video retrospective looks at the creation of the group's self-titled debut album, a masterwork featuring megahits such as "Light My Fire" and "The End." Adding incisive commentary are record executives Billy James and Jac Holzman, musician Henry Rollins and recording engineer Bruce Botnick, who details how the band's mesmerizing sound was captured.

One of the great soprano saxophonists of all time (ranking up there with Sidney Bechet and John Coltrane), Steve Lacy's career was fascinating to watch develop. He originally doubled on clarinet and soprano (dropping the former by the mid-'50s), inspired by Bechet, and played Dixieland in New York with Rex Stewart, Cecil Scott, Red Allen, and other older musicians during 1952-1955. He debuted on record in a modernized Dixieland format with Dick Sutton in 1954. However, Lacy soon jumped over several styles to play free jazz with Cecil Taylor during 1955-1957. They recorded together and performed at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival. Lacy recorded with Gil Evans in 1957 (they would work together on an irregular basis into the 1980s), was with Thelonious Monk's quintet in 1960 for four months, and then formed a quartet with Roswell Rudd (1961-1964) that exclusively played Monk's music; only one live set (for Emanen in 1963) resulted from that very interesting group. 6 original albums from the soprano sax maestro including works with Don Cherry & Gil Evans; Soprano Sax, Plays Theloniuous Monk, Straight Horn Of.., Evidence, Gil Evans & Ten, Great Jazz Standards.

Real Gone Jazz reissued seven classic albums from the early '60s by hard bop pianist Horace Parlan, Movin' and Groovin', Us Three, Speakin' My Piece, Headin' South, On the Spur of the Moment, Up and Down, and Doin' Alright (with Dexter Gordon). Even though this set does not contain any bonus tracks, this isn't a bad way to pick up these sessions if you don't already own them.
