"Blue Bell Knoll" from Cocteau Twins gets the reissue treatment, remastered some 26 years after its initial release. Strikingly beautiful at points, it features standouts such as 'Athol-Brose' and the title track 'Blue Bell Knoll', but it's a slow burner of an album that features them retreading their best path while venturing into unknown territory. 'Carolyn's Fingers' - perhaps the album's highest point - features Elisabeth Fraser intoning hip-hop rhythms and delightful guitar melodies as played by Robin Guthrie. While not their best work, it's a must for collectors and newcomers alike.

As the post-punk dust began to settle, a particular strand of artist began applying a knowingly distant, colder aesthetic to their work. While much of the scene began to be dominated by bigger budget, commercially minded former punk and new wave acts, a darker undercurrent did survive, often more interesting, more dangerous and sexier than anything that could be heard on Top Of The Pops at the time. The first generation of the darkwave movement consisted of bands that were equally influenced by the fractured drama of Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Cure as they were by the art damaged experimentation of Cabaret Voltaire, Wire and Throbbing Gristle, always rich in Gothic spirt, societal displacement, urban isolation and sexual energy.

During the latter half of the 1980s, a wave of alternative artists began to explore a gentler, more ethereal sound, bringing a dream-like aesthetic to the rock and pop idiom. Taking its lead from the UK (and the 4AD label in particular), this refined approach soon spread, particularly to the United States, slowly picking up the moniker “dream pop” – a catch-all term rather than a genre within itself.
Curated by the same team as our successful ‘Still In A Dream’ 2016 shoegaze set, ‘Cherry Stars Collide’ explores that sound as it emerged in the mid-80s and proceeded to define a less grounded, more thoughtful approach to musical expression than was offered elsewhere. Fusing and blending with other genres along the way. – from the guitar driven shoegaze movement and proto-Britpop to the post ‘C-86’ generation and the nascent leftfield clubbing scene – that sound both drew in artists already operating elsewhere and inspired new artists to embark their own journey.

Heidi Berry cut a stark contrast to the prevailing musical mentality of the early '90s – despite releasing records on both Creation and 4AD, together the leading lights of the shoegazing and dream pop movements, her haunting, luminous folk-inspired sound instead harked back to the work of Sandy Denny and Nick Drake, complete with an earnestness and raw honesty far removed from her irony drenched times. Collection includes: Love (1991); Heidi Berry (1993); Miracle (1996); Pomegranate: An Anthology (2000).

London-based four-piece Wolf Alice debut album entitled "My Love Is Cool". Produced by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Black Keys), "My Love Is Cool" is a remarkable leap forward from the band's EP "Creature Songs", released last year. Having already captured critical acclaim on their track and breakout video for "Moaning Lisa Smile" which was previously released in the UK, Wolf Alice is poised for global success.
