Commitment to The Dead

No less than the illustrious Nancy Wilson has said of the soulful and jazzy force of interpretive nature called Clairdee, "In the tradition of all great vocalists, she infuses each song with her own unique style while always remaining true to the song itself." That dead-on assessment applies to her studio albums and live performances — rich and multi-faceted. Aside from creating joyful renditions of great vocal soul-jazz, Clairdee takes the opportunity to fill her growing fan base in on a wide multitude of influences.

Maria Yudina’s legacy has been released on disc before. Many volumes were devoted to her by Vista Vera and in my lengthy review of the first fourteen I devoted some space to the variable nature of the performances and of the original recordings.

On 8 November, The Police will be reissuing re-mastered 180g heavyweight vinyl of Reggatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity as well as a 6-CD boxset edition of 2018’s Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings that brings together all their studio albums with the addition of a bonus disc of B-sides entitled ‘Flexible Strategies’.

Composer Michael Hersch releases two works featuring his frequent collaborator soprano Ah Young Hong: cortex and ankle with Dutch based Ensemble Klang and the script of storms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Tito Muñoz. Hersch sets powerful texts by Christopher Middleton and Fawzi Karim respectively in these gripping works.

Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings is a six vinyl LP box set which brings together The Police’s entire recorded studio albums, as well as a 12-track sixth disc entitled Flexible Strategies, which contains exclusive bonus material of non-album recordings and B-sides.
