This is a mature work – he does not, in a Paganini fashion, write compositions solely to show off his incredible talent. This is a very musical work with beautiful pieces held together by strong craftsmanship and compositional prowess.

220 is an instrumental album by guitarist Phil Keaggy, released in 1996. In contrast to Acoustic Sketches, songs are performed using electric guitar. The album reached No. 21 on the Top Contemporary Christian chart. 220 runs the gamut of styles ranging from the Southern boogie of "Stomp" and "Animal" to the breezy Earl Klugh/Chet Atkins flavored "Tennessee Morning." Mild prog tendencies appear on the Jan Akkerman-infused anthem "The Great Escape," and "Beyond this Day" harkens back to Spectral Morning/Defector-era Steve Hackett.

The a cappella harmonies that open the first song on this collaborative effort from three of CCM's best guitarists (Phil Keaggy, Wes King and Scott Dente from Out of the Grey) dispels any ideas that this is a showcase for guitar technique. Instead, the four vocal and seven instrumental pieces demonstrate that great musicianship involves songwriting and arrangements as well as playing ability.

1999 saw a flurry of Keaggy instrumental releases. The double album Premium Jams is a stunning collection of previously unreleased electric instrumentals dating back to the recording sessions for "Crimson and Blue" and "220". Lots of fun!

Majesty and Wonder, a Christmas album featuring the London Festival Orchestra, includes Keaggy's take on standards such as "Oh Holy Night" as well as a three-part original, "Nativity Suite". Majesty and Wonder would also win Keaggy a Dove Award.
