Computational Structural Mechanics

An Introduction to the History of Structural Mechanics Part I: Statics and Resistance of Solids

An Introduction to the History of Structural Mechanics Part I: Statics and Resistance of Solids by Edoardo Benvenuto
English | PDF | 1991 | 324 Pages | ISBN : 1461277450 | 31.3 MB

This book is one of the finest I have ever read. To write a foreword for it is an honor, difficult to accept. Everyone knows that architects and master masons, long before there were mathematical theories, erected structures of astonishing originality, strength, and beauty. Many of these still stand. Were it not for our now acid atmosphere, we could expect them to stand for centuries more. We admire early architects' visible success in the distribution and balance of thrusts, and we presume that master masons had rules, perhaps held secret, that enabled them to turn architects' bold designs into reality. Everyone knows that rational theories of strength and elasticity, created centuries later, were influenced by the wondrous buildings that men of the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries saw daily.

Proceedings of the 2022 Eurasian OpenSees Days

Proceedings of the 2022 Eurasian OpenSees Days by Fabio Di Trapani, Cristoforo Demartino, Giuseppe Carlo Marano, Giorgio Monti
English | PDF,EPUB | 2023 | 489 Pages | ISBN : 3031301242 | 189.8 MB

This book highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of structural and geotechnical engineering, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the 2nd Eurasian Conference on OpenSees—Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (EOS), held in Turin, Italy, on July 7–8, 2022. The conference was meant to give an overview on the latest developments made with the OpenSees framework as well as to present research and practical outcomes in which OpenSees plays an important role. Conference topics cover cutting-edge applications of OpenSees in the field of structural and geotechnical engineering, the development of new elements and materials, and also the development of new pre- and post-processors. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.
