A hitherto-unreleased electronic masterpiece from Roland Kayn, singular pioneer of cybernetic music. Over a period spanning the late 70s through the early 80s, Kayn (1933–2011) issued a quintet of extended works that quietly but definitively redrew the map of electronic music. Informed by cybernetics and a desire to actualise analogue circuitry as an agency in the compositional process, this music adopted a form that can only be described as oceanic, as side after side of vinyl allowed a wholly new vocabulary of electronic sound to find its shape. This set features a staggering batch of mesmerising computer music realised in 1982-83, roughly between his totemic ‘Infra’ and ‘Tektra’ boxsets. Essential listening for fans of Xenakis, Æ, Cam Deas, Jim O’Rourke, Laurie Spiegel.

Changes: 64 Studies for 6 Harps (1985) is a large-scale work that combines and connects many of James Tenney's (1934 - 2006) most important theoretical and musical ideas, including gestalt segregation principles and complex intonation systems. Composed with the aid of a mainframe computer at York University, the piece also marks a return to computer-aided, algorithmic composition after a long hiatus. It was one of the first pieces Tenney composed with a computer after he left New York City in the late 1960s to teach at the California Institute of the Arts. After Changes, the majority of Tenney's works involved computer software and formal, algorithmic processes. Tenney was both a prolific composer and theorist but rarely wrote in detail about his own pieces even though his music consistently implemented his theoretical ideas.

Wonder's "classic period", which is widely considered to have ended in 1977, was noted for his funky keyboard style, personal control of production, and series of songs integrated with one another to make a concept album. In 1979, Wonder made use of the early music sampler Computer Music Melodian through his composition of the soundtrack album Stevie Wonder's Journey Through "The Secret Life of Plants". It was also his first digital recording, and one of the earliest popular albums to use the technology, which Wonder used for all subsequent recordings. Wonder's 1970s albums are regarded as very influential; the Rolling Stone Record Guide (1983) wrote they "pioneered stylistic approaches that helped to determine the shape of pop music for the next decade"

Rian Treanor will release his anticipated debut album ATAXIA on Planet Mu this March. The striking full-length follows singles for The Death Of Rave and Warps Arcola imprint as well as DJ support from the likes of Björk, Beatrice Dillon, Errorsmith and Mumdance. The title ATAXIA means 'the loss of full control of bodily movements' and relates to the album which is intended to make peoples bodies move in unpredictable ways. He explains that components of the tracks were made by generating a series of irregular events and structuring them, or by destabilising a pattern that is constant. The roots of Rian's playful sound are directly linked to his love of the music he grew up with. Coming from Sheffield, you can hear elements of industrial, synth-pop, bleep, extreme computer music and speed garage at play. Treanor is developing on different levels and in different forms all at the same time and ATAXIA reflects that.

Mark Guiliana has become recognized as one of the world’s leading drummers, admired for his rhythmic sophistication, creative impulse, and individual sound. Driven by his sonic ingenuity and percussive virtuosity, Guiliana makes a much-anticipated return to electronic music with 'BEAT MUSIC! BEAT MUSIC! BEAT MUSIC!' (out April 12). Playing the drums with computer-like precision, Guiliana eschews loops and programmed beats for the human touch, bringing some of the most talented and innovative minds in music (Jason Lindner, BIG YUKI, Tim Lefebvre) to the BEAT MUSIC collective, brilliantly fusing the synthetic and the organic.
