In summer 2001 Neil Young and Crazy Horse went out on a short tour with seven concerts in the US and a handful too in Europe. One of the finest shows the band played during this jaunt was at Denmark's Roskilde Festival, an annual event that Young had performed at during previous years, and one he would play again on subsequent tours. At his 2001 appearance NY & CH gave a stunning performance which was recorded for live radio broadcast. Still today sounding as dynamic as it did at the time, this previously unreleased recording is now available for the first time.

OVERVIEW In 1995, Neil Young and his manager Elliot Roberts founded a record label, Vapor Records. It has released recordings by Tegan and Sara, Spoon, Jonathan Richman, Vic Chesnutt, Everest, Pegi Young, Jets Overhead, and Young himself, among others. Young's next collaborative partner was filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, who asked Young to compose a soundtrack to his 1995 black-and-white western Dead Man. Young's instrumental score was improvised while he watched the film alone in a studio. The death of long-time mentor, friend, and producer David Briggs in late 1995 prompted Young to reconnect with Crazy Horse the following year, for the album and tour Broken Arrow. A Jarmusch-directed concert film and live LP, Year of the Horse, emerged in 1997. From ‘96 to ‘97 Young and Crazy Horse toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, including a stint as part of the H.O.R.D.E.

EXTRAORDINARY FESTIVAL APPEARANCE FROM YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE IN CENTRAL PARK Neil Young and Crazy Horse were deep into a blistering set on Central Park s Great Lawn when Young made an announcement: We re joining forces up here for you. Dave Grohl and Dan Auerbach then took the stage with their guitars to tear through a ten-minute version of Rockin in the Free World, slashing power-chords while reverently watching the master take over, Young wrenching hazy, piercing, dissonant squeals from his Les Paul and shaking violently. Young s feedback-soaked set - which ranged from Powderfinger to new cuts like the autobiographical Born in Ontario and the spooky jam Walk Like a Giant was an epic finale to the Global Citizen Festival, which drew more than 60,000 people to Central Park on 28th September 2012, and also included the Black Keys, the Foo Fighters, Band of Horses, and others. Organized by the Global Poverty Project to raise awareness about extreme poverty, the concert incorporated films about malaria, polio and other tragic diseases, played between performances while speakers dropped sad statistics ( every minute we lose a child under five to preventable diseases; 300,000 women die every year of poverty).
