But Kennedy wants to avoid a chain reaction that will lead to a nuclear war. As assembly of the missiles in Cuba nears completion, consultations at the White House reach a fever pitch, resulting in the controversial decision to enforce a naval blockade of the island.

Luciano e Sandro sono due ragazzi che dall'Italia vogliono trasferirsi a Cuba. Prima della partenza, conoscono tramite internet Nora, una giovane italiana che vive a Cuba e che li aiuterà una volta arrivati lì. Nora è una ragazza semplice e carismatica, viveva a Cuba con il fidanzato che è morto in un incidente nel quale lei ha subito un trauma cranico, motivo per cui le manca qualche rotella. Una volta arrivati a Cuba i due ragazzi prendono strade diverse: Luciano si troverà coinvolto in un giro di combattimenti clandestini mentre Sandro porterà avanti il progetto del ristorante.

Marcelo Quevedo and his brother Carlos Quevedo were separated in childhood when Carlos left Cuba with his mother on a boat to seek a different life. Marcelo was left behind in Cuba burdened with the heavy duty of caring for his grandfather who was in poor health. Distance wasn’t the only issue that marked the separation of the two brothers; their mother couldn’t endure the rough trip and she died before the boat could reach its destination. More than twenty years later, Carlos Quevedo decides to return to Cuba to see his brother only to find that he is now stricken with ALS, a terminal disease that slowly immobilizes him to the point of a vegetative state.

Buena Vista Social Club (1999) is a documentary film by Wim Wenders about the music of Cuba. It is named for the Buena Vista Social Club in Havana, a hotspot for Cuban music in the 1940s. The film documents how Ry Cooder, long-time friend of Wenders, brought together legendary Cuban musicians to record an album (also called Buena Vista Social Club), and to perform a concert in the United States. Although they are geographically close, travel between Cuba and the United States is restricted due to the political tension between the two countries, so many of the artists were travelling there for the first time. The film shows their reactions to this experience, as well as including footage of the resultant sell-out concert. It also includes interviews with each of the main performers. It made the musicians, some of them already in their nineties, known to a worldwide audience, and some went on to release popular solo albums; these included Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Rubén González and Elíades Ochoa.The film was nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature in 2000. [1] It won as best documentary in the European Film Awards as well as many others. The album Buena Vista Social Club features studio versions of the music heard in the movie.

D'abord projeté au Berlinale, il a ensuite participé à de nombreux festivals internationaux tels que le Festival international du film de Jakarta, le Festival international du film norvégien ou encore le Festival international du film de Singapour. Ce film retrace l'enregistrement d'un CD par le groupe Buena Vista Social Club associé à des archives et des interviews. Principalement tourné à La Havane, Buena Vista Social Club est le trente sixième film de Wim Wenders, après, entre autres, Jusqu'au bout du monde (1991), Les Ailes du désir (1987) ou encore Au fil du temps (1976). Buena Vista Social Club a été acclamé par la critique et par le public, de manière moins marquée.

But when the smoke cleared, the Spanish-American War proved to be the factor that brought the United States out of isolationism to its position as a world power. The PBS film Crucible of Empire: The Spanish-American War examines the different elements that led to the war, including William Randolph Hearst's yellow journalism, the Maine, economic conditions, and race issues. After the war, the United States would acquire Cuba, the Philippines, and other Spanish possessions.
