This is volume 1 of the Complete Cantatas of J.S. Bach performed by the Cantata Collective. This is a superb recording of Bach Cantatas, with period instruments and first-rate vocalists. Cantata Collective is a period instruments instrumental and vocal ensemble based in San Francisco. It consists of some of the finest early music performers based in the U.S., including, for example, Nicholas McGegan.

The Black Art Jazz Collective was founded in 2012 by Wayne Escoffery and Jeremy Pelt with the aim of honouring and preserving the art of some of the progenitors of jazz who inspired them, hired them and mentored them first-hand. And while the band does pay homage to the greats of the past they also continue the evolving tradition of jazz with a body of work that remains firmly entrenched in the modernism of today. From the angular melody of Escoffery's "Involuntary Servitude," to the ingratiating groove of Pelt's "For the Kids," the ensemble extends the range and potential established by their illustrious predecessors with innovative original compositions, solos that run the gamut from thoughtful to virtuosic and a shared sense of purpose that is unique on today's jazz landscape.

The Muffat Collective is a period instrument quartet with a difference: four incredible musicians and friends dedicated to the emotions, historical context and beauty of the Baroque, an era full of passion, vitality and energy. After several years of delighting live audiences with their exciting and engaging concerts, this album brings the ensemble’s magic to a wider audience.

In the 16th and 17th centuries the vast majority of images of cornetto players are depictions angel musicians, often in the company of angelic voices, viols, violins, trombones, organs and harps. Taking this image as a point of departure, Hana Blažíková and I, following the success of our project “Breathtaking”, have developed and recorded a new program around the pairing of the voice and the cornetto. Once again we explore the wonderful way the voice and cornetto can play off of each other in diverse repertoires from the 17th century to the present day.

An all-star ensemble comprising the finest performer/composers at work in jazz today, the Collective has traditionally assembled each year to create fresh arrangements of works by a modern master and newly commissioned pieces by each member of the band. Through this pioneering approach, simultaneously honoring music’s greatest figures while championing jazz’s up-to-the-minute directions, the Collective has always embodied SFJAZZ’s commitment to jazz as a living, ever-relevant art form.

Soundwalk Collective with Patti Smith have announced news of a special deluxe box set release of The Perfect Vision, the triptych of acclaimed albums that encompasses The Peyote Dance, Mummer Love and Peradam. The box set, which includes a remix album featuring contributions from Brian Eno, Jim Jarmusch, Laraaji and more, will be released 25th November via Bella Union and is available to preorder. To celebrate the announcement, Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith have shared Jim Jarmusch’s striking reimagining of “Eternity”.
