Based on the dates of 90% of their output and their self-classification as "cosmic prog", DICE would seem to be a new generation German space rock band, albeit in the mold of veterans like ELOY, PINK FLOYD, and even HAWKWIND, but in some sense they were almost contemporaries.
Badfinger were a British rock band that, in their most successful lineup, consisted of Pete Ham, Mike Gibbins, Tom Evans, and Joey Molland. The band evolved from an earlier group called The Iveys that was formed in 1961 by Ham, Ron Griffiths and David "Dai" Jenkins in Swansea, Wales. The Iveys were the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label in 1968…
Eternity's Ocean is an album by German progressive rock band DICE, being released 2010. Nice keys and sax work, beautiful melodies and harmonies, pumping bass playing, excellent guitar solos, many changes in tempo and mood and a big explosion to finish the song. Another great DICE recording.
German prog, be it Krautrock or the country's own brand of symphonic progressive rock, is often accused of coldness and general lack of emotion. While some of these charges are valid, particularly when one thinks of KRAFTWERK or NEU!, and even some aspects of the more melodically oriented groups like ELOY or RAMSES, in the case of DICE the theorem breaks down mightily, especially on this the second installment of their Without/Within trilogy. Here we find more real romance and comfort both in the lyrics and arrangements than can rightly be expected on the pop charts let alone in a genre known more for pyrotechnics. But please don't assume the instrumental fireworks are toned down, because they are not, in the least.
Se Dice Bisonte, No Bгfalo is Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's (The Mars Volta) third full-length recording. The players on this set include Mars Volta members Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, Juan Alderete de la Peña, and Adrián Terrazas-González, with guest appearances by "Money Mark" Ramos-Nishita and Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. It was recorded mostly in Amsterdam with supplemental recording and mixing done in Los Angeles. The set opens with two brief sketches, the 26-second improvisation "The Lukewarm" and "Luxury of Infancy," a Spanish blues melody played over skeletal interlaced guitars. It may only be a minute and 15 seconds long, but it carries within it all the heart one needs to know that something special is in store…
FURYU, the band, was initially formed by Zappoli MICHELE (bass) and Matteo MIGLIORI (guitar/vocals) in Bologna Italy in 2000 but it took almost a decade and several lineup changes for FURYU to become a proper band. After several musical styles shifts, the band finally hit it off in mid 2009 when the drummer Riccardo GRECHI and the sampler Damiano STORELLI came aboard and the members began writing, recording and producing their first full length album. The album "Ciò Che l'Anima Non Dice" was released in 2011 and features a concept that circles around moods, feelings and human emotions. The synthetic phrases that characterize each song title is intended to narrate the experiences of the protagonist in his own journey. The idea was to create an ambitious album that would be taken as an artistic statement that could have an international bearing to it.
