Robin Holcomb, Wayne Horvitz - Solos (2004) MCH SACD ISO + DSD64 + Hi-Res FLAC Vinyl & HR

Husband and wife pianists Wayne Horvitz and Robin Holcomb takes turns at the keyboard on this 2004 release, the couple's first recording sharing equal billing. They are together and yet alone, as the title promises, each plays solo piano. The instrument is a Steinway D; the programme they have sequenced includes original compositions, free improvisations and three covers, including Wayne Shorter’s beautiful Armageddon. The live-to-DSD recording in a small concert hall creates an intimate, palpable atmosphere.

This lovingly remastered release sees live performances of Satchmo and his All Stars presented to a whole new generation of listeners. Including the infamous title track along with a warm and rich performance of When It's Sleepy Time Down South and a lively rendition of Ole Miss, among many other top notch numbers, this is a perfectly balanced Armstrong collection to be treasured. This DSD music was never released on a SACD, but now it is available as a DSD Download.

Of the new releases issued under Art Pepper's name in 1980, So In Love was overall the finest. The altoist stretches out here on a program of standards and blues, backed by alternating rhythm sections from the East and West coasts. For this Analogue Productions DSD release, we didn't mess with perfection. Gus Skinas from the Super Audio Center produced New York Album and So In Love for DSD from flat transfers from the original analog master tapes that were remixed from the multi-track tapes and transferred to 2-track analog by Rik Pekkonen and John Koenig. For The Intimate Art Pepper Skinas authored the DSD tracks from the remaster by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman created for the 2003 Analogue Productions SACD reissue…

Jenna Mammina - Close Your Eyes (2016) [DSD256 + Hi-Res FLAC] Vinyl & HR

"Close Your Eyes" is a sort of “Best Of” album, comprising tracks taken from different recordings that made by Jenna Mammina going back about ten years. Mostly these are recorded to 2" analog tape, although a couple were recorded directly to DSD. For "Close Your Eyes" the original tapes were remastered to DSD256 using the very latest Pyramix equipment. The results are quite astonishing. Most tracks comprise Jenna on vocals, backed by Bass, Drums, Keyboards, and assorted other instruments including Guitar, Soprano Sax, and Accordion.

Fiona Joy Hawkins is an Australian composer, vocalist, and pianist, who uses the stage-name Fiona Joy. She is no stranger to acoustic instrumental music. "Signature-Solo" is Fiona's debut album of solo contemporary piano music. This album also marks Tiny Island Music's debut as record/imprint label under the well known audiophile label, Blue Coast Music Group, recorded live to analog tape and yhe label's first native double DSD release. Included on the album is new performance of Fiona Joy's song Grace, which was part of a Grammy winning album in 2015.

Yuko Mabuchi moved to the United States from her native Japan only recently, but when she plays American jazz she speaks the language perfectly. This albums associate producer and Yarlung special advisor Billy Mitchell describes Yukos playing as funky from the heart. Yuko was born in Fukui, on the west coast of Japan, north of Kyoto. This live concert recording session took place in Cammilleri Hall, the same concert venue designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, where Yarlung recorded Sophisticated Lady jazz quartet in 2014.

He is still constantly challenging himself, teaming up with younger musicians, performing and recording new materials. This disc, simply titled July 6th, is the second part of the Great Jazz Trio, contains more tunes that Jones had never recorded before.

Tokyo Cinema Jazz Trio is a piano trio consisting of drummer Osaka Masahiko, pianist Mayuko Katakura, and bassist Yosuke Inoue. "Jazz Cinema Paradise" features famous movies themes remaked for a standard piano trio's jazz arrangement. All processes from recording to mix and mastering are done at DSD 5.6 MHz, and of course without editing. This work makes a standard songs from masterpiece movies heard with a beautiful piano trio version.
