The Deram Anthology 1966–1968 is a compilation album by David Bowie, released in 1997. It collects together most of the material Bowie recorded for Deram Records that has been previously released in some form, including the 1967 debut album in its entirety (tracks 5-18), in chronological order. Tracks 24–27 were mixed/recorded in 1969 after Bowie was dropped from Deram Records and were for the promotional video "Love You Till Tuesday", made to sell Bowie to a new label. Thus Deram originally had nothing to do with these tracks.

David Bowie One of the greatest stars of the rock & roll era, David Bowie evaded easy categorization throughout his career, operating as the artiest rocker within the mainstream and the most accessible musician on the fringe. Bowie may have trafficked in ideas cultivated in the underground, but he was never quite an outsider as far as rock & roll was concerned. From the outset of his career in the 1960s, he attempted to break into the Top 40, playing British blues, mod rock & roll, and ornate pop before finally hitting paydirt as a hippie singer/songwriter. "Space Oddity" gave Bowie his breakthrough in the U.K., reaching the Top Ten in the summer of 1969 – the summer of Apollo 11 – and it belatedly performed a similar feat in America, giving him his first Top 20 hit early in 1973. By that point, Bowie had traded his folkie persona for the glam-rock alien Ziggy Stardust, one of the many shifts of sound and image that came to define his career.

David Bowie was not a" rock legend " like the others. Going through decades and fashions like this has always given Bowie the status of an innovator, a singular artist who manages to perpetually reinvent himself, to challenge himself as well… Whether glam, new wave, funk or soul, disco or electro, David Bowie has embraced all genres; sometimes even one step ahead. From Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, from Aladdin Sane to Thin White Duke, he invented and reinvented himself, metamorphosed and showed off his body turned show. Body he made travel to the four corners of the world, from London to New York through Berlin. A geographical, physical, intellectual, dense and quite fascinating route that has made David Bowie an icon of the world of modern culture and a pioneer of pop. An icon playing on an assumed androgyny for, not to say claimed.

The songs (except tracks 33 and 34) were recorded November 1996, at Looking Glass Studios. (This is not credited on this release but on later official releases).The interview and birthday greetings were recorded at Studio Instrument Rentals, New York, NY. USA 3rd-4th January 1997 and broadcast on BBC Radio One, 8th January 1997
