Dead & Company

Dead & Company is a band consisting of former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir (guitar), Mickey Hart (drums), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums), along with John Mayer (guitar), Oteil Burbridge (bass/drums), and Jeff Chimenti (keyboards). The band continues the strong live tradition of the Grateful Dead, creating unforgettable experiences at their shows, no two performances being alike.To date, the band has released no studio recordings, but all of the concerts from their tours have been (or are being) released as albums.

The Grateful Dead bid adieu to their faithful fans with a series of concerts in 2015 called Fare Thee Well. The shows, held in Santa Clara and Chicago, were billed as the last time the Dead alumni would share the stage together but, in typical Dead fashion, several members reconsidered that notion upon the project's conclusion. John Mayer – a newer convert to the Dead who struck up a friendship with Weir – was recruited to play guitar, bassist Oteil Burbridge was hired alongside keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and this new incarnation of the Dead was dubbed Dead & Company. Following a Halloween unveiling in 2015, Dead & Company set out on the road in 2016. The tour went so well, the band headed back out on the road in the fall of 2017, followed by a summer tour in 2018.

Visits by the Grateful Dead and succeeding bands of its core members – and, of course, throngs of Dead Heads - have long been a beloved Las Vegas tradition. But it didn’t always look like it would be that way. When the Dead, at their peak of their popularity, announced plans to play at the city’s largest stadium, the Silver Bowl, in 1991, there were attempts to get the shows cancelled by powerful forces in Vegas, including owners of some of the major hotels and casinos, who expressed concern that the band would attract “the wrong element” – a rather amusing notion in a city that was pretty much founded and run for many decades by a really wrong element, personified by infamous gangsters like Ben “Bugsy” Siegel.
