Picture the scene, The year 2000 has passed and the new millenium is just getting underway - A new scene explodes onto the nation's Indie Dancefloors - some called it Indie Sleaze, Nu Rave, Future Disco or even Electroclash – ‘Strobes in Space’ takes you back to a time when the Indie kids re-discovered the joys of dancing, raving and having fun at Indie clubs. Day-Glo, Light Sticks, Baggy T-Shirts and Hedonism on the Dance Floors - welcome to Strobes in Space! When the Indie Dance / Nu Rave scene crashed onto the dancefloors and ignited the youth of the time it seemed like uber cool and incredible new bands were appearing from all corners of the globe almost every day. An explosion of creativity and excitement flooded the clubs and airwaves. From the UK you had bands like Bloc Party, Klaxons, Test Icicles, Playgroup, Simian Mobile Disco. Coming out of NYC you had the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fischerspooner. From France you had Phoenix from Versailles and Black Strobe coming out of Paris. DJ / Producer Tiga from Canada, Digitalism from Hamburg Germany, Cut Copy from Melbourne Australia, and from Belgium Soulwax and Goose, and even spreading to South America with CSS coming out of Sao Paolo, Brazil. It really was a global scene.

Disco was all about the 12 inch singles, and it really did encompass a variety of genres and styles while it lasted. What you get here is a well-curated and accurate sample of three facets of the music, for lovers only. Disc 1 is the biggest hits and acts like Donna Summer, Chic and Cheryl Lynn. Disc 2 is the deep cuts, with Cerrone, Bohannon, and Gino Soccio. Disc 3 is where it gets weird, but thanks to the likes of Blondie and New Order, New Wave did frequently find its way to the disco. Here we find Gary Numan, Lene Lovich, Sparks and the Flying Lizards at their most danceable. It's the shortest of the three parts, at under and hour, but then there aren't many 16 minute New Wave epics comparable to "Love to Love You Baby."

TKK continue to evolve their sound with Death Threat, taking a more rock 'n roll approach compared to the dancier/disco sound of their last album, "The Filthiest Show In Town". Fans of earlier TKK will like Invasion (of the ultra modelz) - as this hearkens back to the bands earlier and much darker sound. It would fit in perfectly on Confessions Of A Knife. They use more guitar here than they have in recent albums - tracks like the swaggering Foxxxy Rockit and the heavy industrial rock of Witchpunkrockstar show that this band is in fine form and far from extinct.

Soul Jazz Records’ ‘Boombox 2’ is a new selection of early rap music from the period 1979 – 83, with barely a household name in sight. Featured here are some the earliest hip hop records that came out of New York City following the enormous commercial success of the first ever rap record, ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by the Sugarhill Gang, in September 1979. Artists and producers alike tried to jump aboard the new commercial possibilities of hip hop. By the end of the year there were 30 hip hop singles, all released by independent New York labels.
