"One again, Iron Bonehead Productions discovers one of the best, brightest/darkest hopes for the death metal underground: Germany's burly and beguiling Beyond, who unleash the LP version of their debut album, Fatal Power of Death. With evocative artwork by Comaworx, the aptly titled Fatal Power of Death is a dynamic, multi-hued journey into the mysteries of death - and The Metal of Death - through oft-epic, flowingly serpentine songwriting and hideous, incendiary execution, twisting their way downward into caverns of disease 'n' dread but never losing sight of a well-composed song. An insanity-driven trip into the darkest depths of your mental abyss - behold the Fatal Power of Death, and enter BEYOND…"
Dutch doom death metal pioneers ASPHYX release their new studio album, "Incoming Death", on September 30 via Century Media Records. Commented ASPHYX vocalist Martin Van Drunen: "Four and a half years after the release of 'Deathhammer', we finally managed to finish its long-awaited successor. Expect eleven unmerciful battering tracks in the typical ASPHYX death/doom style, but also the most varied ASPHYX material up to date without losing our rawness, brutality and heaviness. "The album will be entitled 'Incoming Death'. And like 'Deathhammer', it's a phrase that doesn't really exist, but refers to what entrenched soldiers cry out when under severe artillery fire. Thus 'Incoming Death' implies another relentless bombardment of monstrous ASPHYX death/doom metal!"
‘When we approach a composer, we like to immerse ourselves in his or her early works, in order to understand the evolution of the person behind the score.'
Swedish death metalers Tribulation have been relatively under the radar since their 2009 debut release The Horror. Their unique hybrid of thrash, death, and black metal set them apart from their competitors, and now they’re back on The Formulas of Death with a dose of prog metal added to the mix. Not guitar noodling prog either – Tribulation try a more melodic approach to death metal, focusing more on interesting chord changes to formulate songs as opposed to a constant barrage of brutal riffage. The album doesn’t really get started until the second track, where Tribulation really show their maturation in sound. Thrash metal isn’t nearly as present on The Formulas of Death; in fact, the production is about the thrashiest part of the album, and although musically some moments of thrash shine through, for the most part its presence is overshadowed by the largely increased progressive influence. Black metal overtones are also more apparent here than on The Horror. Tremolo picked riffs and hauntingly dark progressions are plentiful, and this heavy emphasis on atmosphere really brings out the bleak passages in songs such as ‘Wanderer in the Outer Darkness’ and ‘Through the Velvet Black.’
Sonically inducing a depraved and morbid condition of the mind, INSIDIOUS DISEASE have returned to present their second full length album: »After Death«. Freshly signed to Nuclear Blast Records, the band convenes (with members currently and previously of DIMMU BORGIR, MORGOTH, NILE. NAPALM DEATH, and SUSPERIA) to create a modern venture into classic death metal. The title »After Death« carries with it philosophical concepts that can be found weaved throughout the lyrical content of the entire album; conspiracy theories, perception of reality and existence, the dread of disease, and the inescapable nature of death are just some of the ideas touched upon. These intriguing bits of subject matter are intelligent fuel for the band and their writing. Although topics of morbidity are fairly common in the realm of death metal, the members of INSIDIOUS DISEASE take a deeper step into their interpretations of these concepts through their violent, electrically-charged melodies.
Band started in 1989 as Gladiator, but quickly changed its name to Holy Death. During next few years, band released several tape and split releases, and in 1996 released the classic "Triumph Of Evil" album, which was… bootleged by the famous Head Not Found Records from Norway. Band's career was going up and down several times, band had several serious line up changes, and in 2005, their best and probably most mature release was created. "The Knight, Death And The Devil"…..
Keith Jarrett's American-based ensemble made a series of powerful recordings in the 1970s, of which this is one more essential title. The title track, at nearly 23 minutes long, is a gorgeously organic piece that grows from quiet beginnings to a triumphantly propulsive climax. Drummer Paul Motian and percussionist Guilherme Franco are dazzling here, as well as on the rhythmically based "Great Bird" (which finds Jarrett playing soprano saxophone along side Dewey Redman's tenor). "Prayer" is another of Jarrett's evocative and meditative pieces, with Charlie Haden's bass adding a rich counterpoint to the piano
