In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra is a live album by British hard rock band Deep Purple, recorded on 25-26 September 1999 at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the London Symphony Orchestra, and released on 8 February, 2000 on Spitfire records. The album was a project started in 1999 by keyboardist Jon Lord, who sought to recreate the band's innovative 1969 album, Concerto for Group and Orchestra, of which the original score was lost. With the help of Marco de Goeij, a fan who was also a musicologist and composer, the two painstakingly recreated the lost score, and Lord elected to have the band perform it once more at the Royal Albert Hall, but this time with the London Symphony Orchestra rather than the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and with Paul Mann as conductor rather than Malcolm Arnold. The concert also featured songs from each member's solo careers, as well as a short Deep Purple set, and guest musicians such as Ronnie James Dio, the Steve Morse Band, and Sam Brown.

FEW BANDS CAN BOAST OF A CAREER OF MORE THAN 35 YEARS AND FEWER STILL CAN BE SEEN AS INFLUENTIAL AND RELEVANT TODAY, BUT DEEP PURPLE, "COME HELL OR HIGH WATER" HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REINVENT THEMSELVES TIME AND AGAIN SO THAT THEY ARE NOW TRULY WONDERFUL TO WITNESS IN CONCERT. The Deep Purple saga has taken many twists and turns over the years, and thankfully, since 1994 it appears to have taken a permanent turn for the better. This 2 CD set is a stunning document of the band getting to grips with their heritage and embracing the future with an energy that you would be more likely to see coming from a band who have been around for 35 weeks. As always, the musicianship is spectacular, but now you can listen to a live album that is a worthy successor to Made In Japan, and re-acquaint yourself to a band that you might recently have overlooked.

If you were looking to find Deep Purple's spiritual home, then two locations would vie for top billing. The first would be Hanwell Community Centre, stuck in the midst of a huge between the wars London housing estate. The second would be the altogether more affluent and spectacularly sited town of Montreux, on the shores of Lake Geneva. In the former, Deep Purple assembled in mid-1969, to audition Ian Gillan and Roger Glover and begin work on "Deep Purple In Rock". But it was in Montreux, just two years later, that they wrote and recorded "Machine Head", one of the most influential rock albums of all time.

Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, but their musical approach has changed over the years. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, they shifted to a heavier sound with their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid- seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
