Ensemble Molière presents a luxuriant and varied selection of French Baroque music to accompany Louis XIV, the Sun King, in his daily life. What better way to wake up than to be serenaded by the Overture from Charpentier’s Les Arts Florissants ? The King’s day continues with extracts from Lully’s Phaëton as the sun rises, a little Couperin as the royal household’s day unfolds, a Symphonie pour les soupers du Roy by Delalande to accompany supper, dance music from the Ballet Royal de la Nuit and a suite to accompany the setting sun from Marais’ Trios pour le coucher du Roy . Louis XIV chose to portray himself as the Sun, the manifestation of the god Apollo on earth and the ultimate power which gives life to all things. This album reimagines a day in the life of one of the most magnificent royals of the Baroque era.

Pièces d'orgue consistantes en deux Messes, l'une à l'usage ordinaire des Paroisses, pour les Festes solemnelles, l'autre propre pour les Convents de religieux et religieuses : la parution de ces deux messes, assortie d'un certificat par lequel Delalande attestait les avoir trouvées « fort belles et dignes d'être données en public », signe dès 1690 l'entrée de Couperin dans le cercle des musiciens ayant vocation à être reconnus.

There are quite a few French Baroque ballet and opera samplers on the market, perhaps because theses repertories, with their arcane textual and musical conventions and their unfamiliar genres, are thought to be rather inaccessible for general listeners in complete works or large chunks of them. The reconstructions of William Christie and others, including this disc's conductor, Sigiswald Kuijken, have shown that equal parts of imagination and musicality can go a long way toward making the operas of the French Baroque come alive, and the repertoires of virtuoso singers are beginning to reflect this.

Si vous cherchez une biographie de Mozart, passez votre chemin: la partie consacrée à l'homme Mozart occupe moins du quart de l'ouvrage et procède non chronologiquement mais par thèmes pour cerner le personnage. Vous pourrez toujours en français, si vous en supportez le ton à la fois idéologiquement engagé et larmoyant, vous replier sur le 'Mozart' de Brigitte Massin chez Fayard.
Mais si ce qui vous intéresse avant tout c'est l'oeuvre de Mozart, précipitez-vous sur ce livre. Ses limites ne lui permettent certes pas d'analyser les partitions dans le détail et certaines positions ont vieilli (Mozart, l'enfant éternel!…)

L'auge del període barroc, a principis del segle XVIII, va ser un moment de guerres i aixecaments a Catalunya, però també de la creació d'una cort reial a Barcelona després de tres segles sense tenir-ne. Per això, els músics i compositors de Catalunya es van posar en contacte amb els estils i tècniques més avançats de Nàpols, París i Viena. Tomàs Milans (1672-1742) és un dels principals compositors d'aquest període, contemporani amb Fux, Delalande, Caldara, Scarlatti i Albinoni, tot i que va compondre només música religiosa per la seva obra com a mestre de capella a Barcelona i Girona.
