Galahad formed in 1985 just for fun playing a mixture of covers (Genesis, Zeppelin, Rush, Sabbath, Focus, Marillion etc.), in order to get gigs and original material. Then, after mixing it with the slightly 'bigger boys' such a IQ, Pendragon and Magnum, Galahad decided take it more seriously, playing only original material resulting in the release of their first proper album in 1991, 'Nothing Is Written', which was self-financed, released independently but which sold several thousand copies. Tyler Mitchell was a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra with Marshall in 1985 with Sun Ra, then much later when Marshall became musical director. On this recording Tyler has the opportunity to perform Marshall Allen's and Sun Ra's compositions with a small ensemble. They used different ideas and concepts from two of Tyler’s former band leaders: Arthur Taylor and the Sun Ra Arkestra.
One of the towering figures of 20th century's music, Alabama-born pianist and organist Herman "Sun Ra" Blount (1914) became the cosmic musician par excellence. Despite dressing in extraterrestrial costumes (but inspired by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt) and despite living inside a self-crafted sci-fi mythology (he always maintained that he was from Saturn, and no biographer conclusively proved his birth date) and despite littering his music with lyrics inspired to a self-penned spiritual philosophy (he never engaged in sexual relationships apparently because he considered himself an angel), Sun Ra created one of the most original styles of music thanks to a chronic disrespect for both established dogmas and trendy movements.
