Diabetic retinopathy (DR) and its dramatic and sight-threatening complications, such as diabetic macular edema, remain a leading cause of visual impairment among the working-age population. With the advent of effective treatments, a new era in the management of DR has been opened up: it is now possible for patients to regain a degree of visual acuity not previously expected.
