An iconoclast with a large, loyal audience and a long, very successful career, Neil Young has explored a impressive range of styles – from acoustic introspection and wistful country rock to blistering hard rock, electronic experimentation, blues, rockabilly, and heartfelt polemics – while sounding entirely like Neil Young at all times, with his engagingly craggy voice, his flinty sincerity, and unique gifts as a songwriter. Young's creative restlessness is a comfortable match for his prolific nature, and he's not averse to dropping his current fascinations for something else on the drop of a dime, which frustrates some fans but also helps keep his music fresh and full of ideas. Even when he's in relatively familiar musical territory (his electric music with Crazy Horse, his rootsy semi-acoustic work, the intimacy of his solo performances, his thematic albums focusing on life experiences and his take on the world around him), there's a spark of unpredictability that fuels his muse and keeps him in the present day despite a career spanning over seven decades.

Ten Takeaways From ‘Cheaper Than Cheep,’ A Frank Zappa Film Like No Other. An abandoned TV special, unearthed after 50 years, provides musical thrills while giving intimate insights into a genius at work.On June 21, 1974 Frank Zappa assembled his group The Mothers at their rehearsal hall on 5831 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, to record Cheaper Than Cheep, a TV special that would remain unseen for over 50 years. The early ’70s had seen a boom in rock music on mainstream TV, with shows including The Midnight Special, ABC’s In Concert and, in the UK, The Old Grey Whistle Test, giving groups an opportunity to reach large audiences. Albums had taken over from singles as the dominant format for the serious music fan and the pop shows of the day had been usurped by these relatively serious, longform showcases.

Truth in Our Time complements American minimalist’s new symphony with compelling programming including Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, Korngold’s Violin Concerto, featuring James Ehnes, and potent contemporary works by Nicole Lizée and Yao.  "The concert was as much a capsule presentation of the orchestra as an institution as well as a performing ensemble. The NACO has a crisp, slightly light sound, sonorous but expressive through articulation, color, and agility rather than mass, and this suited all the pieces," New York Classical Review of the US Premiere at Carnegie Hall, April 2022
