From Detroit, Michigan, Discipline return for their fifth studio album, Captives of the Wine Dark Sea, released on their new label Laser’s Edge. The album is held to seven tracks which add up to a perfectly paced forty-five minutes, veteran producer Terry Brown (Rush, Fate’s Warning) providing a mix which keeps the instruments clear and identifiable with a good balance, accompanied by top quality performances from the entire band. Captives Of The Wine Dark Sea is a thoughtfully created piece of work, a fine example of modern progressive music and another excellent addition to Discipline’s canon of work.

The first Discipline studio CD moves quickly from delicate to demented. Singer Matthew Parmenter establishes pretty melodies over lyrics about uncomfortable and, at times, disturbing subjects. This is a good record and worth your attention, especially if you like older Genesis and do not mind the tension inherent in King Crimsons music. The name of the band might be like the eighties Crimson incarnation, the music is definitely different, more romantic, more melodic and not as neurotic.

Discipline's singer and main songwriter plays guitars, drums, saxophone, violin, piano, mellotron… everything but the bass. This is an album of beautiful haunting melodies, delivered with emotional vocals; at times it appears to have a slight melancholy, although there are signs of positivity throughout.
