Ingrid is blind. She lives with her husband Morten. As soon as he is out of the house, she sits at the window with a cup of tea listening to the radio or to the sounds that surround her. Ingrid’s fear of leaving the apartment grows. She suspects that her husband sometimes stays at home secretly in order to observe her. Or perhaps he chats online with a mistress whilst sitting next to her in bed, pretending to answer business mails. Einar has a penchant for internet porn and women with long hair but he’s too shy to approach anyone. Elin lives opposite him and has nobody to call her own except for her child, who spends most of the time with its father. Ingrid’s life is connected to the lives of Einar and Elin. They seem to share some of her fears and at one point even her blindness. Ingrid is aware of Einar's and Elin’s sexual desires and Elin is familiar with Ingrid’s preferences. Or are these two just figments of Ingrid’s imagination? Blind is an experiment: how important is sight for a visual medium?
One of the key films of the 1970s, John Boorman's Deliverance is a nightmarish adaptation of poet-novelist James Dickey's book about various kinds of survival in modern America. The story concerns four Atlanta businessmen of various male stripe: Jon Voight's character is a reflective, civilized fellow, Burt Reynolds plays a strapping hunter-gatherer in urban clothes, Ned Beatty is a sweaty, weak-willed boy-man, and Ronny Cox essays a spirited, neighborly type. Together they decide to answer the ancient call of men testing themselves against the elements and set out on a treacherous ride on the rapids of an Appalachian river. What they don't understand until it is too late is that they have ventured into Dickey's variation on the American underbelly, a wild, lawless, dangerous (and dangerously inbred) place isolated from the gloss of the late 20th century. In short order, the four men dig deep into their own suppressed primitiveness, defending themselves against armed cretins, facing the shock of real death on their carefully planned, death-defying adventure, and then squarely facing the suspicions of authority over their concealed actions. Boorman, a master teller of stories about individuals on peculiarly mythical journeys, does a terrifying and beautiful job of revealing the complexity of private and collective character–the way one can never be the same after glimpsing the sharp-clawed survivor in one's soul.Tom Keogh

Joel and Ethan Coen's third collaboration, the gangster film Miller's Crossing, stars Gabriel Byrne as Tom Reagan, the right-hand man of big-city Irish mob boss Leo (Albert Finney). The film opens with Italian mobster Johnny Caspar (Jon Polito) and his second in command Eddie Dane (J.E. Freeman) informing Leo and Tom that they are going to kill bookie Bernie Bernbaum (John Turturro) because he has been revealing Caspar's fixed fights to other gamblers. Leo informs Caspar that Bernie pays for protection and is not to be touched. After the Italians leave in a huff, Tom informs Leo that he should give up Bernie. Tom and Leo are both involved with Verna (Marcia Gay Harden), Bernie's sister. After a failed hit on Leo starts a full-scale mob war, Tom reveals to Leo the truth about his relationship with Verna. This leads to a falling-out between the pair. Tom goes to work for Caspar, but in truth, he is still loyal to Leo.
