Terri Lyne Carrington's dual identity as an extraordinary progressive jazz drummer and powerful in-the-pocket groove driver has been presented on her previous recordings. While straddling those lines appeals to different audiences, this CD reverts back to her more commercial roots from 20 years ago, centering on the contemporary, rhythm & blues oriented side of music from an instrumental standpoint.
MONARCH is led by the industrious EYEWITNESS and MILLENNIUM guitarist and mentor Ralph Santolla. The MONARCH band project, fronted by ex-TIDAL FORCE and ANOMALY singer Jim Dorian, released an album in 1997 through British label Now & Then Records. The tracks here are solid and heavy, but have a stack of melody and plenty of guitar solo's and riff's. The style traditional melodic hard rock like any Yngwie, Scorpions or Dokken album. The songs can tend to get a little same-ish towards the end, but it's pretty solid nevertheless.
German Heavy Metal, 2016 Rerelease, with 8 Bonustracks, limited edition to 500 copies. Black Diamond from Northrhine-Westfalia/Germany was Andreas Roch's project before Dorian Gray. His musical abilities showed themselves for the first time with Black Diamond and luckily he made also some albums with his later band. Sadly Black Diamond released only one EP in 1985. All other songs were put out only as Demos. The speedy sound on the EP combined with catchy songlines ("Break out", "Hard Rock" and "Temple Of Love") was typical for the time but had a higher class than many competitors. The musical direction changed a little bit with the 1989-Demo…
Sabine Erdmann may be a harpsichordist. But she’s also in love with her organ. So, she instantly caught fire when two friends suggested she should record a CD on it with music from the time of Heinrich Biber. There was no deeper concept, no precise plan. But with just two phone calls, Sabine had set up a trio of musicians from Berlin’s dynamic historically informed practise scene. Immediately, they began searching for rewarding and surprising repertoire.
