2016 four CD live archive release. Esoteric Recordings' Reactive label is proud to announce the release of the second volume of an official bootleg series by the legendary Tangerine Dream. This set includes a 1978 Paris concert as well as a 1980 show taped in East Berlin. Formed in Berlin in September 1967 by Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream are simply one of the most important groups to have emerged on the German music scene of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Always guided by the genius of Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream developed a sound based on the use of synthesizers and keyboards. In Britain, John Peel soon began to promote the band on his influential radio show which ultimately led to Tangerine Dream becoming one of the first acts to sign to Richard Branson's newly established Virgin label in 1973. Tangerine Dream's music would influence a whole host of musicians who followed in their wake, such as Julian Cope.
Enigma is a German musical project founded in 1990 by Romanian-German musician and producer Michael Cretu. Cretu had released several solo records, collaborated with various artists, and produced albums for his then wife, German pop singer Sandra, before he conceived the idea of a New Age, Worldbeat project. He recorded the first Enigma studio album, MCMXC a.D. (1990), with contributions from David Fairstein and Frank Peterson. The album remains Enigma's biggest, helped by the international hit single, "Sadeness (Part I)", which sold 12 million units alone. According to Cretu, the inspiration for the creation of the project came from his desire to make a kind of music that did not obey "the old rules and habits" and presented a new form of artistic expression with mystic and experimental components.
Barbara Hannigan turns her attention to the work of Erik Satie as the musical world celebrates his 150th birthday. The disc focuses on one of the minimalist composer’s few elaborate masterpieces: the almost-forgotten vocal piece “Socrate,” on three Plato dialogues in French translation.
Andy Rock started to play in rock bands in early 2000. The main musical influences of this Greek artist on his music and guitar play come from some of the greatest AOR bands such as Bon Jovi, Richard Marx and Michael Bolton. In 2004, Andy Rock formed the Melodic Rock band WILD ROSE which has released four studio albums Half Past Midnight [Best Debut Release / Newcomer of 2011 (Heavy Paradise / December 2011)], Dangerous [Wild Rose “Dangerous” hits No.1 on import sales in Japan (BURRN Magazine / June 2013)], Hit 'N' Run [First single "Through The Night" from the album "Hit 'N' Run" hit #1 on Classic Rock Chart Week #40 and weeks #43 / #44 / #45 in 2014], with all 3 albums being sold out from their presses and their latest album "4” which was acclaimed as album of the year 2016 by the press.
David Pajo’s latest album as Papa M is wistful and poignant, like all his work. But it ultimately feels hopeful rather than weary, upbeat rather than defeated.
Carlo Gesualdo has become notorious, not only from his royalty but for the eccentricities of his life and music. Gruesomely murdering his first wife and her lover, mistreating his second wife and isolating himself have all fuelled the ""myth of Gesualdo as a madman"". Gesualdo turned his prodigious compositional talent to the creation of a collection of pieces that betray his obsession with his own personal sin. The five-voice motets on this release speak as strongly as Gesualdo's words ever could. The Marian Consort possesses both a lean vocal delivery and a robust interpretation of the texts.
After three fine quartet albums that culminated in 2014's excellent Extended Circle, Norwegian pianist and composer Tord Gustavsen returns to the trio format of his earliest ECM outing. What Was Said isn't a look back at the standard piano trio format. German-Afghan vocalist Simin Tander joins the pianist and drummer Jarle Vespestad. Gustavsen's instantly recognizable sound ripples in ever widening circles around melodies often based in traditional Norwegian hymns, folk songs, and gospel music. This band incorporates improvisational elements into the core of each composition, and the singer is a co-conspirator in the moment of creation. Tander sings in Pashto, Norwegian, and English. In most cases, lyrics have been translated from their origins into another tongue. Tander's delivery, an expressive and disciplined, slightly smoky contralto, is full of mystery…
Meddle is the sixth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 31 October 1971 by Harvest Records. The album was produced between the band's touring commitments, from January to August 1971 at a series of locations around London, including Abbey Road Studios and Morgan Studios. With no material to work with and no clear idea of the album's direction, the band devised a series of novel experiments which eventually inspired the album's signature track "Echoes". Although the band's later albums would be unified by a central theme with lyrics written entirely by Roger Waters, Meddle was a group effort with lyrical contributions from each member, and is considered a transitional album between the Syd Barrett-influenced group of the late 1960s and the emerging Pink Floyd.
