Christos Zerbinos (accordion) & Miltos Logiades (piano) - Equinox (2012)
EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks & cue & log) & mp3 @ 320 kbps | tracks: 17 | Scans | 1:09:53 | ~ 350 Mb & 200 Mb
Label: EMI | 5% recovery record | Instrumental, folk, traditional

Accordeonist and arranger Christos Zerbinos selected 17 well known, traditional greek folk songs, and arranged them for accordion and piano. As he explains in the included booklet: "he decided to go against what was perceived as being 'folk' in the collective consciousness of the Greek people and work towards a different aesthetic direction." Therefore he tried to feel the sound through the colors, the light, the truth and honesty - elements that are hidden within and strive for an elegiac atmosphere. He invited his friend, the talented pianist Miltos Logiades and they recorded this outsatnding instrumental album. As the great Mikis Theodorakis comments in the booklet: "I would describe this work as a magical bridge that connects the Greek folk song with the contemporary one of the 50's and 60's". Enjoy.

EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks+.cue+log) - 156 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 60 MB | Covers - 7 MB
Genre: Latin Jazz, Bossa Nova | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Verve (394 122-2)

Equinox continues the scrumptiously winning sound that Sergio Mendes cooked up in the mid-'60s, this time a bit more fleshed out with John Pisano's guitar, a slightly thicker texture, and even an imitation sitar (this was, after all, 1967). Again, the mix of American pop tunes old and new and Brazilian standards and sleepers is impeccable (although it didn't yield any substantial hits), and the treatments are smooth, swinging, and very much to the point. While Mendes reaps a predictable harvest from Antonio Carlos Jobim - he was one of the first to discover and record "Triste" and "Wave" - he also likes to explore the work of other outstanding Brazilian writers like Jorge Ben, Joao Gilberto, and especially Edu Lobo (whose "For Me," with its bright flashes of combo organ, is one of the album's highlights)…

Equinox produced Styx's first single with A&M, the highly spirited "Lorelei," which found its way to number 27 on the charts. Although it was the only song to chart from Equinox, the album itself is a benchmark in the band's career since it includes an instrumental nature reminiscent of their early progressive years, yet hints toward a more commercial-sounding future in its lyrics…

'25 years after the glory days of the solo piano genre sparked by artists like Keith Jarrett and George Winston, the solo piano album remains an elusive undertaking: very easy to do - very hard to do well. Swiss pianist Ralph Zurmuhle is one of those rare artists, who does it sublimely well, with great sensitivity to touch, melody, and ambience. Listen and you will find yourself in the hands of a master.' ~ Stephen Hill, Producer of Hearts of Space Radio

The title of Sebastian Fagerlund's Octet 'Autumn Equinox' derives from it's links with his opera Autumn Sonata, based on the Ingmar Bergman film. Some of the moods and musical material of the opera appear in the octet, as a kind of reflection.
