Saying that he "just wanted to be bored" (though, in reality, terrified to fly), book editor George Caldwell (Gene Wilder) eschews the airlines and travels from Los Angeles to Chicago aboard a train called "The Silver Streak." George meets and becomes romantically involved with Hilly Burns (Jill Clayburgh). After he witnesses the murder of Hilly's boss Professor Schreiner, a well known art historian, George is thrown off the train and is himself accused of the murder of undercover FBI agent Bob Sweet (Ned Beatty). Sweet had been tracking shady art dealer Roger Devereaux (Patrick McGoohan), who had killed Schreiner in order to take control of the "Rembrandt letters," which proved certain art sold by Devereaux had been forgeries. Devereaux further planned to replace Schreiner with a double, and thereby to discredit a book written by the professor that would have destroyed Devereaux's reputation. This plan requires killing Caldwell and Burns, the only witnesses to the crime. To survive and save Burns, Caldwell enlists the help of small-time criminal Grover Muldoon (Richard Pryor).

The core of this group – John Surman, Alan Skidmore, Peter Lemer, Tony Reeves, and Jon Hiseman – recorded an LP titled Local Colour for ESP-Disk in 1966. The plan, conceived the year after the 50th anniversary of the recording session, was to reunite the original quintet, which had existed for six months back in '66, but unfortunately Nisar Ahmad (George) Khan, tenor saxophonist on the original album, came down with something and couldn't appear. Alan Skidmore (Lemer bandmate in SOS) was deputized and, as all familiar with his career would expect and you will hear, came through with flying local colors at the concert on February 20, 2018 at noted London jazz club Pizza Express. Four months later, Jon Hiseman passed away at age 73 after battling a brain tumor.

Kraftwerk (German: [ˈkʁaftvɛɐ̯k], lit. "power station") are a German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1969 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Widely considered innovators and pioneers of electronic music, Kraftwerk were among the first successful acts to popularize the genre. The group began as part of West Germany's experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders. Wolfgang Flür joined the band in 1974 and Karl Bartos in 1975, expanding the band to a quartet…

In 1977-78, Lee Ritenour recorded three sets for the Japanese JVC label which have each been reissued on CDs. Although the liner notes say that, for contrast, the guitarist teamed up with some of the top East Coast studio players, the date was recorded in Burbank and most of the musicians would eventually move to L.A. With suitably funky playing by guitarist Eric Gale (who works well with Rit), keyboardist Patrice Rushen, bassist Abraham Laboriel, drummer Harvey Mason and percussionist Steve Forman, Ritenour performs six somewhat lightweight numbers, best-known of which is "Sugar Loaf Express."

Gilbert "Gil" Scott-Heron was an American soul and jazz poet, musician, and author, known primarily for his work as a spoken word performer in the 1970s and '80s. His collaborative efforts with musician Brian Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues, and soul, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. His own term for himself was "bluesologist", which he defined as "a scientist who is concerned with the origin of the blues." His music, most notably on Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul.

Wakefield Express was commissioned in 1952 by the eponymous newspaper to celebrate its 100th anniversary and follows a group of local reporters as they travel around the area in search of news-worthy events. Although it was originally intended to be a film showing how the paper was printed it developed into a far more personal study of the communal life of a group of towns in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
