Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. The band is considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide…

Live in Paris 1975 is a live album by the British hard rock band Deep Purple, recorded in 1975 at the Palais des Sports in Paris. It was meant to be released before the 1975 Come Taste the Band album, but was not released until 2001 by Purple Records. In early 1975, the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore recorded his first album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Rainbow and decided to leave Deep Purple. This made the band's show in Paris on 7 April 1975 a historic moment in their long career, marking Blackmore's final appearance with the band until the band reformed in 1984. The set took in tracks from Burn, Stormbringer and Machine Head/Made in Japan, and featured the band's Mk III line up for the last time. It was also the last time Deep Purple ever played the songs "The Gypsy", "Lady Double Dealer", "Mistreated" and "You Fool No One" live, though Rainbow and Whitesnake have played "Mistreated" in concert, and Whitesnake has played "Lady Double Dealer" on their early concerts.

England's Deep Purple is bona fide classic rock royalty with a body of work spanning nearly seven decades. Along with Cream, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, they defined hard rock and early heavy metal. Though their lineup has constantly evolved, Deep Purple effectively made music a career for guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Roger Glover, vocalists Ian Gillan and David Coverdale, drummer Ian Paice, and organist/composer Jon Lord. Shortly before his death in 2012, Lord attributed Deep Purple's success in selling more than 100 million albums to "musical restlessness." Their early singles were cover-heavy exercises in psychedelic pop and included "Kentucky Woman," "Hush," and "Might Just Take Your Life," as well as the 1968 long-players Shades of Deep Purple and The Book of Taliesyn. In 1970, after releasing the grandiose Concerto for Group and Orchestra, Deep Purple were dishing out molten, riff-heavy slabs of hard rock. 1970's Deep Purple in Rock and 1972's Machine Head showcased the loud, proud, proto-metal riffs that fueled "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star," and "Woman from Tokyo," all performed to extremes on the live classic Made in Japan.

This is a record that even those who aren't Deep Purple fans can listen to two or three times in one sitting – but then, this wasn't much like any other album that the group ever issued. Actually, Deep Purple was highly prized for many years by fans of progressive rock, and for good reason…

Actually, Deep Purple was highly prized for many years by fans of progressive rock, and for good reason. The group was going through a transition – original lead singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper would be voted out of the lineup soon after the album was finished (although they weren't told about it until three months later), organist Jon Lord and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore having perceived limitations in their work in terms of where each wanted to take the band.

FEW BANDS CAN BOAST OF A CAREER OF MORE THAN 35 YEARS AND FEWER STILL CAN BE SEEN AS INFLUENTIAL AND RELEVANT TODAY, BUT DEEP PURPLE, "COME HELL OR HIGH WATER" HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REINVENT THEMSELVES TIME AND AGAIN SO THAT THEY ARE NOW TRULY WONDERFUL TO WITNESS IN CONCERT. The Deep Purple saga has taken many twists and turns over the years, and thankfully, since 1994 it appears to have taken a permanent turn for the better. This 2 CD set is a stunning document of the band getting to grips with their heritage and embracing the future with an energy that you would be more likely to see coming from a band who have been around for 35 weeks. As always, the musicianship is spectacular, but now you can listen to a live album that is a worthy successor to Made In Japan, and re-acquaint yourself to a band that you might recently have overlooked.
