A 10 CD box set with all the albums of the legendary Dutch Prog Rock Formation Earth and Fire. The nine albums packed in a monumental box, some albums of which no longer available for years, specifically for this release packed into replicas of the original sleeves. Besides there is an extra bonus CD with non-album singles, special single releases, b-sides and more. The accompanying booklet includes rare photos and clippings from the private archive of singer Jerney Kaagman.
This Dutch band featured female vocalist Jerney Kaagman, twin brothers Chris and Gerard Koerts (Chris handled the guitars and Gerard handled the keyboards), bassist Hans Ziech, and drummer Ton v.d. Kleij. Earth & Fire had quite a few hits, like "Seasons" (1969), "Ruby is the One" (1970), "Wild & Exciting" (1970), "Invitation" (1971, released only as a single at that time), "Memories" (1972), and many more…
Released in 1970 by the Dutch group Earth & Fire, this debut presents a collection of fine psychedelic pop that shows the band starting to develop their signature sound. One of the most distinctive features of the music is the lead vocal of (female) vocalist Jerney Kaagman - vocals are in English with a bit of an accent. Jerney has a nice style and a great sense of melody; come to think of it, bouncy, and at times, melancholy melodies are everywhere on this album. The rich vocal harmonies are also nice and add a lot to the sound. Other distinctive features include the Hammond organ playing, which assumes a very "churchy" sound at times, along with some hard-edged electric guitar tones. Overall, these guys are fine players.
As with many transition albums, "Atlantis" shows the group at its best in a perfect storm of conflict between at least 2 opposing forces. In this case it's the psychedelic prog of its predecessor and the more pop oriented material that would continue to impose itself in greater degree on the band throughout the seventies. Earth and Fire was somewhat unique in being artistically adept at both styles, although this album still tends to the more progressive side of their character.
Earth and Fire are legends of the Dutch rock scene, first making an impression with their debut single in 1969. They quickly established themselves as an international act thanks to the excellence of their material and the powerful vocals of Jerney Kaagman. In 1971 the band released arguably their finest work, 'Song of the Marching Children', a Mellotron soaked masterpiece that was a major selling album throughout Europe.
Esoteric Recordings is pleased to release classic 1975 album by Dutch Progressive Rock group Earth & Fire, To the World of the Future. Featuring charismatic vocalist Jerney Kaagman (one of the few female vocalists in 70s Prog Rock), Earth & Fire was one of the finest bands to emerge from Holland in the early 1970s. Scoring a series of international hits, by 1975 the band had begun to adopt the use of synthesisers alongside the Mellotron in their music. One of their final concept albums, To The World of the Future was Dutch hit upon its release in April 1975. This Esoteric Recordings reissue is newly re-mastered and fully restores the original album artwork. This edition also includes five bonus tracks taken from the band’s singles released between June 1974 and February 1976.
The second collection covering hit singles from the '70s top funk and soul band, Earth, Wind & Fire. This anthology has recently been supplanted by a box set covering virtually all of their big Columbia singles and some early Warners material. If you enjoyed their disco and late '70s cuts more than the early tracks, this anthology is worth getting.
Essential: A masterpiece of prog-rock music collection.
One of my favourite debut albums, the self titled `Earth and Fire' LP is a riff-heavy, guitar and organ dominated pop rocker with powerful male/female vocals.
Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music.
The classic cover of album self-titled Earth & Fire, illustrated by Roger Dean. And this is the UK edition, hard to find an original copy at a reasonable price, today I present the Akarma reissue of this masterpiece.
