2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the hugely influential Philadelphia International Records. To mark this, and following our reissue of some of the labels other acts such as the Three Degrees, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and the O’Jays, we are pleased to present an album from one of the most identifiable voices of the Philly Sound. Billy Paul is a Grammy Award winning soul singer, most noted for his R&B #1 "Me & Mrs Jones”. EBONY WOMAN is a delightful Gamble & Huff produced 1970 album, which was later re-released in 1973. This BBR reissue sees the original artwork being used for a CD release for the first time.

Fumble - Not Fade Away: The Complete Recordings 1964-1982 (2020)

Fumble - Not Fade Away: The Complete Recordings 1964-1982 (2020)
FLAC tracks | 04:19:46 | 1,51 Gb
Genre: Classic Rock, Rock / Label: Grapefruit

Four CDs. Fumble were by far the classiest of the rock'n'roll revival bands operating during the Seventies, recording extensively in their own right as well as touring with Bill Haley and Fats Domino, backing Chuck Berry and appearing in both the London show Elvis: The Musical and Jack Good's revival of the legendary Oh Boy!None of their rivals had original material of the caliber of "Free The Kids" or "Marilyn", and none of their fellow retro-rockers possessed the imagination or artistic self-confidence to come up with such radical revamps of classic R&B/rock tunes as their incendiary version of 'Not Fade Away'. Not Fade Away: The Complete Recordings 1964-1982 does exactly what it says on the tin. It features all of the band's recordings, including their three studio albums, beginning with their self-titled 1972 debut set (housed in a memorable Hipgnosis sleeve) and the superb follow-up 'Poetry In Lotion', which featured a handful of superior original songs alongside the vintage covers. In addition, we include the 'Rumble With Fumble' live LP as well as a number of previously unreleased studio outtakes, alternative versions, a BBC radio session and even eight pre-Fumble recordings from their time as mid-Sixties garage beat/R&B group The Iveys.

Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes were one of the very first groups to achieve global success for Philadelphia International Records within its first year as a CBS-distributed label. The 1972 release of two consecutive ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ ballads – ‘I Miss You’ and ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’ – marked the start of a four-year association that yielded some of the most enduring recordings in contemporary soul music, in the process creating – with label founders Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff and a burgeoning coterie of talented songwriters, arrangers and musicians – a handful of timeless dance music classics including ‘The Love I Lost’, ‘Bad Luck’ and ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’.

Paul McCartney and his music need no introduction. Together with three of his friends, he changed the cultural landscape forever. And Paul’s accomplishments since then as a member of Wings and a solo artist make for a staggering body of work that stands proudly alongside those eight sensational years with The Beatles. "Pure McCartney", is a compilation of his solo, Wings and Fireman work, celebrates that fact, showcasing 67 highlights from one of the most-revered catalogues in music - spanning from 1970 debut solo album all the way through 2012’s "My Valentine", 2014's "Hope For The Future" and 2015’s "Say Say Say remix". The collection was personally curated by Paul McCartney and many tracks have been remastered for this collection. This is the only comprehensive career collection released of Paul McCartney's solo works (outside of the The Beatles) from his 45 year solo career.

This collection of Ellington's Thirties recordings is generous in that it offers 95 selections and meagre in that there is no discographical information at all (no recording dates, no personel, no matrix numbers). The liner notes give some information but leave one pining for more too. There the criticism ends. Audio restoration by Dutchman Harry Coster (who is attached to the Dutch Jazz Archive and has an outstanding reputation for painstaking restoration of old material) is beyond reproach and the recordings never sounded so good before. And of course there is the music itself, which is formidable, both in musical content and in execution by that peerless group of proud individuals that constituted the Duke Ellington orchestra…
