Muchas de las personas que leen a José Muñoz y Carlos Sampayo ya conocen a Joe y a su bar a través de la mítica serie Alack Sinner. Estos tres tomos están dedicados al Bar de Joe, un espacio universal ubicado en Nueva York pero con réplicas igualmente reconocibles en Londres, Madrid, Buenos Aires o El Cairo. Historias del bar es un homenaje a esos bares frecuentados por seres solitarios pero unidos entre sí por la maraña que teje la soledad y las situaciones comprometidas en las que se encuentran sus parroquianos…

Nove di mattina. Un gruppo eterogeneo di persone è a far colazione in un bar nel centro di Madrid. Uno di loro ha fretta e va via ma, mentre oltrepassa la porta, qualcuno gli spara in testa. Nessuno osa aiutarlo: sono tutti intrappolati dentro dal cecchino che ha sparato. La tensione man mano sale e la situazione offre ai malcapitati la possibilità di rivelare a poco a poco peccati e colpe.

On an ordinary day in bustling downtown Madrid, life ticks over as usual, while inside a decrepit and noisy central bar, a motley assortment of common urbanites is killing time indolently, up until a loud gunshot sends chills down the spine. Out of the blue, now a man lies dead in front of the bar in a pool of blood, and then surprisingly, in broad daylight, another death follows. Where did that mysterious lethal bullet come from? Is this an act of terrorism or is there a solitary invisible sniper hidden on a roof? Ambientado en un local de Nueva York, pero que bien podría ser de Madrid o Buenos Aires, y a través de unos seres frágiles y solitarios, esta novela gráfica presenta un retablo de la condición humana que mueve a la empatia y a la reflexión, planteando dilemas vitales y morales de resolución difícil: emigración, crimen, relaciones paternofiliales, problemas raciales, amor y desamor… Muñoz y Sampayo homenajean a esos personajesdel universo del bar de Joe que suelen formar parte del atrezzo, figuras que cruzan fugazmente el fondo de las viñetas y casi nunca tienen voz.
