Perhaps Madonna correctly guessed that the public overdosed on the raw carnality of her book Sex. Perhaps she wanted to offer a more optimistic take on sex than the distant Erotica. Either way, Bedtime Stories is a warm album, with deep, gently pulsating grooves; the album's title isn't totally tongue-in-cheek…

Bibio's Stephen Wilkinson is no stranger to revisiting and updating the past on his albums, whether it's the history of music in general or just his own. On Silver Wilkinson, he returned to the folktronic idylls of the Vignetting the Compost era with a newfound purpose; on A Mineral Love, he dissects the fusion of 21st century electronic music and '70s and '80s R&B, funk, and pop that made Ambivalence Avenue so compelling. The warmth of the bubbling keyboards and easy grooves on songs like the summery "Town & Country" suggest that Wilkinson spent hours crate-digging for the perfect samples. However, he actually created each and every sound in the studio, a traditional approach that reflects - and enhances - that this is one of Bibio's most song-oriented albums…

One listen to the tunes on this set will have the naysayers changing their minds as they bop to the likes of Mark Morrison, Vanilla Ice and TLC. In truth the 1990s was a classic decade for groove just as the 1980s was before it.

Representing various European backgrounds, the Belgian capital and melting pot proves to be a never ending source of inspiration for the band. Taking influences from jazz, groove and dance music, their aim is simple but straightforward: to make your heads bob. The formula they use to do so has been the same since their early days: improvisation, never ending jam sessions and an open-mindedness towards various genres and styles. This gives their music an organic and vibrant feel. Furthermore, the three boys' long-lasting friendship is at the heart of it all, always relying on what brings them together: their love for music. The KAU cycle is bound to repeat itself and to birth something new - over and over again.

Breakwater’s sophomore and final album, “Splashdown”, released in 1980, is a fine example of sophisticated early 80’s R&B and funk, plus a few grand ballads, which should have charted high but were ignored by both Pop and R&B radio. “Splashdown” consists of 8 songs and most are jazzy, funky and danceable R&B. Any of the songs on this set would have been a welcome addition to Top 40 Pop, R&B or Dance charts had radio or Breakwater’s label been more supportive. “Splashdown Time”, “You”, “Say You Love Me Girl”, and “Let Love In” are all funk-jazzy hard hitting dance floor grooves. “Release The Beast” is a great progressive Rocker that just begs to crank up the volume. “Love Of My Life”, “The One In My Dreams”, and “Time” are the three stunning mid tempo quiet storm gems, that display Breakwater’s versatility. Unfortunately for the band, it appears that Arista, their label, simply did not know how to properly promote Breakwater since it was impossible to pigeonhole Breakwater into just R&B, Pop, Funk or Dance.
