For his fourth album, Elvin Bishop organized a new backup group and switched to Capricorn Records. Capricorn was known as the standard bearer of the Southern rock movement–the Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, etc.–and Bishop was able to emphasize the country/blues aspects of his persona and his music in the move from Marin County, California, to Macon, Georgia…

Elvin Bishop's Macon Takeover continued on his second Capricorn album, which had a slightly less country feel than Let It Flow but continued to be dominated by twin guitar playing (courtesy of Bishop and Johnny "V" Vernazza) and honky tonk piano playing (from Phil Aaberg)…

Elvin Bishop broke the bank with the success of "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" in the spring of 1976, so when he returned with this album in the fall, he turned up on the cover holding bags of money. The question, of course, was whether the hit would turn out to be a breakthrough or a fluke…

Headliner Elvin Bishop's folksy, good-old-boy charm is as much a part of this upbeat live set as the music, thanks to generous doses of good-natured banter with fans. This live best-of collection, culled from five performances over almost a year, is highly entertaining…

Capricorn Records, having switched distribution from Warner Brothers to Phondisc, was on its way out by the time it released this, its sixth Elvin Bishop album, which may help explain why, only two years after he was in the Top 10 with "Fooled Around And Fell In Love," he didn't even reach the charts with this album…

The talented musician in the likable Elvin Bishop is always fighting for the upper hand with Pigboy Crabshaw, his spaced-out hayseed persona. Co-producer Delaney Bramlett helps steer the sound toward Memphis and Muscle Shoals R&B and keeps the focus on the music, not the headliner. Not a bad idea, considering his enthusiasm barely overcomes his singing limitations. This is a solid and surprisingly varied outing that, until "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," gave him his signature tune in the powerhouse title track. The 2003 CD reissue on Sundazed adds a previously unissued bonus track, "Sit and Wonder."
