Eurythmics – We Too Are One

Switching to Arista Records in the U.S., Eurythmics made their last album together with We Too Are One, and they went out in style. Calling upon a broad pop range, their seventh album was their best since Be Yourself Tonight in 1985. The sound was varied, the melodies were strong, and the lyrics were unusually well-crafted. In retrospect, the album can be seen as a dry run for Annie Lennox's debut solo album, Diva (1992); songs like "Don't Ask Me Why" (which grazed the U.S. Top 40) serve as precursors to the dramatic ballads to come.

Eurythmics were one of the most successful duos to emerge in the early '80s. Where most of their British synth pop contemporaries disappeared from the charts as soon as new wave faded away in 1984, Eurythmics continued to have hits until the end of the decade, making vocalist Annie Lennox a star in her own right, as well as establishing instrumentalist Dave Stewart as a successful, savvy producer and songwriter. Originally, the duo channelled the eerily detached sound of electronic synthesizer music into pop songs driven by robotic beats. By the mid-'80s, singles like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and "Here Comes the Rain Again" had made the group into international stars, and the group had begun to experiment with their sound, delving into soul and R&B. Live 1983–1989 is a collection of live performances by British pop/rock duo Eurythmics, recorded throughout the 1980s, encompassing the years of their greatest commercial success. The songs are presented chronologically across two discs, with most of the performances recorded close to the time of the original studio recording. For example, the performances of "Love Is a Stranger" and "Who's That Girl?", both from 1983 albums, are drawn from 1983 concerts and sound very similar to the studio versions. Recorded live between March 1983 and September 1989 in Manchester, Los Angeles, Berlin, New York, Chicago, Austin, Stockholm, Nuremberg, Rome, Houston, London, Brighton, Christchurch, Sydney, Melbourne, Paris, Dublin, Edinburgh. Limited Edition bonus acoustic CD, all songs recorded live in Rome at Palazzo dello Sport, 27 October 1989.

Best known as one-half of the groundbreaking synth pop duo Eurythmics, Dave Stewart was also a highly successful producer and, on occasion, a solo artist. Nearly a decade after Eurythmics went on an unannounced, virtually unnoticed hiatus in 1990, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart returned with the heavily publicized Peace. Both Lennox and Stewart had been silent since 1995, which means that reuniting really wasn't a sacrifice, since their solo careers had stalled. In fact, it was a wise idea to re-team, both commercially and artistically, since their best and most popular music was made together.

Now, the music of Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox takes a new spin on turntables all over the world, thanks to the global re-release of the duo’s eight studio albums on vinyl. Spanning their entire career, the albums will be released by RCA/Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment starting with In The Garden (1981), Sweet Dreams (1983) and Touch (1983), followed by Be Yourself Tonight (1985), Revenge (1986) and Savage (1987) then We Too Are One (1989) and Peace (1999).

Dave Stewart and The Spiritual Cowboys was an English band, formed in 1990 after frontman David A. Stewart's departure from Eurythmics. Chris Bostock from JoBoxers, Jonathan Perkins, Olle Romo and Nan Vernon were later joined by Martin Chambers from The Pretenders and John Turnbull from Ian Dury and The Blockheads. They made two albums: the self titled Dave Stewart and the Spiritual Cowboys and Honest. Their live stage act is characterized by spiritual icons and a unique double drum kit played by two drummers.
