Ewiger Rembrandt

The three members of the Rembrandt Trio, after fifteen years of touring the world together, found themselves grounded in The Netherlands when the world came to a standstill in 2020. Known for their curiosity-driven approach to music, incorporating many different musical cultures into their work and collaborating with grandmasters from different countries and continents (most notably with Persian grandmasters Hossein Alizadeh and Kayhan Kalhor) - the trio was now forced to stay put, stop performing, travelling and collaborating.

During the fall of 2013, they first met at November Music Festival and since then there has been a successful collaboration and a deep friendship between the Iranian kamancheh grand master Kayhan Kalhor and the three Dutch jazz musicians of the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio.

Cet ensemble de courts poèmes en prose revient, avec plus de naturel et plus de liberté encore que dans les vers des précédents recueils, sur un des thèmes de prédilection de l’auteur : la peinture. Le poète s’y attache à redéfinir avec des images neuves et parlantes tous les éléments qui la constituent : la couleur, l’espace, le temps…

The musical side of the great Dutch baroque painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) is the inspiration for this CD: this music could have been heard by Rembrandt in his environment, some of it even with great certainty.
