John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Saturday Night Live characters Jake and Elwood Blues grew out of their humble TV skit origins to become a bonafide pop-culture phenomenon with their hit movie and gleeful covers of soul, blues and R&B staples. "The Best of The Blues Brothers" is their fourth and final recording. It culls some of their most popular hits and includes previously unreleased live versions of “Rubber Biscuit” and “Expressway To Your Heart”.

It’s been a long time coming: almost four years of digging and delving into tape vaults, following this or that lead, before we felt we had enough to make another “Super Funk” outing not just viable but undeniably worthwhile. We like to go a little further, offering up music that can’t be sourced elsewhere. To that end, alongside seven cuts culled from rare 45s, we have unearthed 13 unissued masters, all high quality. They include a previously unknown cut by Linda Lyndell, of ‘What A Man’ fame, and an instrumental version of the funk break ‘I Got Some’ from Dave Hamilton’s archive.

The first leg of the 2009 Working On A Dream tour enters the spotlight with Nassau 5/4/09. This superlative 27-song set serves as a showcase for the album, including key songs “Outlaw Pete,” “Kingdom of Days,” “The Wrestler” and the title track. Beyond WOAD, Nassau offers a delectable blend of classics (“She’s The One” and a brilliant “For You”), contemporary material (“Radio Nowhere,” “American Land,” “Hard Times [Come Again No More]”) and fun surprises, including the tour premiere of “Rendezvous” and the E Street Band’s one-for-the-ages cover of Gamble & Huff’s irresistible “Expressway To Your Heart.”

An all-ager-rager in Denver; I am so glad this one is up cuz my late '80s live-tape-swapping-obsessive self has always been hopped up about this 1986 gig. It was right off a Europe run and a week later flat-splat into a summer Evol USA tour, SY were kicking around in a hot van gigging everywhere, coast to coast and back with the likes of Saccharine Trust and Dinosaur. It's well documented in Lee journals and Thurston's epic/hilarious Forced Exposure tour diary, the latter of which has a great shotgun-seat-sourced pic of T at the wheel as the van left the Lincoln Tunnel behind, off to finally join the trail their newfound SST brothers and sisters were also carving out town to town.
