Falklands

While many books have been written on the Falklands War, this is the first to focus on the vital aspect of logistics. The challenges were huge; the lack of preparation time; the urgency; the huge distances involved; the need to requisition ships from trade to name but four.

'Yomping' was revealed by the journalist Charles Laurence in 1982 as the word which the Royal Marines used to describe carrying heavy loads long distances on foot. Given the intense public interest in the dramatic events then unfolding in the South Atlantic, it caught on and is now in common usage.

The experiences of 10 men who fought in the conflict, as they revisit some of the most dramatic, impactful, bloody and life-changing moments of the war and how they have come to terms with them since. The landing of British troops on the Falklands Islands on May 21, 1982, marked the beginning of a cold and bloody 25-day land war, and the stories of these men takes taking in the Battle of Goose Green, the catastrophic attack on British ship the Sir Galahad and the final night of fighting that led to the Argentine surrender

Thirty-five years on from the Falklands War, Panorama follows a group of soldiers as they return to the islands for the first time since the war.
