With Siface: lamor castrato, countertenor Filippo Mineccia, together with Javier Ulises Illan and Nereydas, presents a short imaginary pasticcio opera reflecting the music-making and life of the contralto castrato known by that stage name. Born Giovanni Francesco Grossi in 1653 in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Siface was acclaimed for his exciting musical performances, yet who became famous also for the tragedy of his love life. He was called upon to sing in operas and oratorios by the likes of Stradella, Pasquini, Bassani, Pallavicino and Agostini.

A famous backstage photo was taken in Chicago after one of just three performances that Callas gave of Madama Butterfly; it shows the soprano in her Japanese costume, snarling furiously at a bailiff who had served a writ on her - the very image of the tempestuous diva. By contrast, in her recording of the role, 'it is, miraculously,' as the critic John Osborne observed, 'the 15-year old girl and not the great Callas who stands before us.' Her genius for vocal characterization finds an apt complement in Herbert von Karajan's conducting: 'a wholly sympathetic rendering [that]brings out more of the detail of the score than I have ever heard before', wrote Gramophone.

Madama Butterfly is an opera in three acts (originally two) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It is based on the short story "Madame Butterfly" (1898) by John Luther Long, which in turn was based on stories told to Long by his sister Jennie Correll and on the semi-autobiographical 1887 French novel Madame Chrysanthème by Pierre Loti. Long's version was dramatized by David Belasco as the one-act play Madame Butterfly: A Tragedy of Japan, which, after premiering in New York in 1900, moved to London, where Puccini saw it in the summer of that year.

Cos'è davvero la «Divina Commedia»? Non certo un polveroso tomo o una mera reminiscenza scolastica. Il poema immortale di Dante è ben altro: una «strepitosa storia d'amore», piuttosto, un'«esplosione di entusiasmo per Dio» e, soprattutto, il resoconto memorabile del viaggio più estremo e drammatico che un essere umano possa compiere. Un capolavoro che per la sua capacità di comunicare la potenza della fede cristiana e di parlare a ogni generazione, dovrebbe essere lettura indispensabile per noi cittadini spaventati di questo cupo XXI secolo, inghiottiti dal buio interiore della selva oscura in cui tutti, prima o poi, ci troviamo a vagare. Questa originale "traduzione" dell'«Inferno» - che qui rivive fedelmente in prosa e con le parole dell'italiano corrente - mostra l'impressionante contemporaneità dei temi e dei personaggi danteschi. Già la condizione iniziale del protagonista non può che stupire..
