Rod Stewart has teamed with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra for Swing Fever, a 13-track salute to the timeless songs of the big band years. The album arrived February 23, 2024, via Warner Records. On Dec. 5, 2023, the day of the announcement, the stars surprised commuters at London’s St. Pancras rail station by performing the first single, “Almost Like Being In Love.” For the first time, Britain’s new partners in swing have united to share their peerless dexterity on a tribute to truly great songs such as “Ain’t Misbehavin,”“Frankie And Johnny,” “Sentimental Journey” and “Lullaby of Broadway,” recorded at Holland’s own studio in Greenwich, London.

Sophisticated Swing is the fifth album by jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, and his fourth released on the EmArcy label, featuring performances with Nat Adderley, Junior Mance, Sam Jones, and Jimmy Cobb. A couple of decades ago Sophisicated Swing was the title of an instrumental tune - by Will Hudson, if our memory holds up - and the music that corresponded with it had a certain sleekness that probably justified the title by the standards of that era. But today sophistication in jazz has a somewhat deeper meaning. The true jazz sophisticate has absorbed the lessons of a new musical generation, one that brought with it great advances in harmonic, melodic and rhythmic subtlety. The word "swing", too, has acquired a significance mare far-reaching than any of us could have imagined in the days of monotonous four-to-the-bar rhythm sections and comparatively limited and unimaginative syncopation.

The Diablo Swing Orchestra dates back to 1501 in Sweden, where history tells the tale of an orchestra that played like no other. With music so seductive and divine that the ensemble overwhelmed audiences all over the country, and people from all social classes took them to their hearts. Their performances rapidly earned a reputation of being feral and vigorous and gained the orchestra a devoted crowd that followed them around…

Although Django Reinhardt s Gypsy Swing legacy has a worldwide following today, we shouldn t overlook the years when the style went into decline after his death in 1953. During years of oblivion, Django s music was handed down in trailer parks and caravans, played at gypsy-gatherings and swapped by collectors of rare records. Thanks to a few devoted musicians, this music was saved from darkness. Romane was one of the pioneers in the revival of Django s style. Today, Frémeaux celebrates Romane s importance with this first volume of a complete set of his recordings entitled Swing for Ninine.

There is something carefree and joyful about the music of Django Reinhardt; something that comes bubbling to the surface every time he begins a wild run of notes on his acoustic guitar. Of course the swinging style of Stephane Grappelli's violin doesn't hurt. Nor do great songs like "Tea for Two," "My Melancholy Baby," and "Jeepers Creepers." Swing 39 captures 17 tracks by the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, including a number of alternate versions, on the eve of Grappelli leaving the group (because of the war). Two bouncy versions of "Jeepers Creepers" start things off, and while the pacing of both cuts is similar, each guitar solo is fresh and fundamentally different. Reinhardt creates endless variety through his ability to solo with chords or single notes, bend strings, and constantly alter the tempo…

The "Gypsy jazz" - also known as Gypsy swing - is an expression that is often said to be born with the guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt in the 30's. Because its origin is, to a large extent French, it is often referred to as "Gypsy Jazz" or "Manouche Jazz" even in English texts. Between 1930 and 1950, Django was at the head of a group of gypsy guitarists working in Paris and around.

The band continues to tour extensively, mainly in Europe & Scandinavia, and record directed by Bob Kaper, himself a member since 1967, following the former leader, Peter Schilperoort's death on 17 November 1990. Schilperoort had led the band for more than 45 years, albeit with a five-year sabbatical from 13 September 1955, when he left to pursue an engineering career before returning to lead the band again officially on 1 January 1960.
