This album release continues Lars Vogt’s discography of recordings of cornerstone works within the classic piano concerto literature conducting from the keyboard. Previous album releases include the complete piano concertos of Beethoven and Brahms with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. In 2021, Lars Vogt won the OPUS Klassik award for the best solo piano album release of year from his recent Janácek solo album release (ODE 1382-2). In January 2022, the same album also won an ICMA Award.Felix Mendelssohn’s two numbered Piano Concertos are works of great virtuosity, brilliance, and poetry by a young composer. Both moments of calm and storm alternate in these works. Their slow movements are particularly known for their great warmth and beauty, not being very far away from the world of Mozart’s concertos.
