Franz Ferdinand's first ever full-length DVD, which comes packed with over 50 live tracks and features, including two full live concerts, interviews, behind-the-scenes studio footage and hidden extras!
The songs are faster live. Most weren't all that slow in the first place. If Franz Ferdinand couldn't play, this might be a liability, but the Scottish quartet has got the chops. And Alex Kapranos sure can sing. (Plus, he always looks genuinely happy to be on stage.) That said, the format of this double-disc set takes a little getting used to in that it's more of a greatest hits package than a traditional concert release. Granted, two full shows are included–plus "Tour de Franz," an amusing look at the band on the road–but the first section is a patchwork of songs recorded throughout Europe and the States.

Until the arrival of this disc, practically all I knew about Ferdinand Schubert was that he had tended his younger brother Franz in his final illness, that in his two marriages he had fathered more children even than Bach in his (29, to be precise), and that he had composed a quantity of church music, among which was a Requiem described as his Op. 2 which in fact had been written for him—most willingly—by his 21-year-old brother.

The “Jason Max Ferdinand Singers” is a project that I have thought about since 2001. I had the sound of the ensemble in my head, and had plans to make a debut the summer of 2020, but COVID19 forced a hiatus. In January of 2021, a creative opportunity was asked of me, and after some hesitation and contemplation, I decided to take a dive into the deep, feeling I would be a dupe not to heed the signs!
