Karen Young (born June 19, 1951) is a singer, lyricist, composer and arranger from Quebec, Canada who has explored several different musical styles. Young was born in Montreal, Quebec. Starting in folk music with a medium chart hit Garden Of Ursh (1971) in the late 1960s, she switched to jazz in the mid-1970s with the successful bebop vocal group, Bug Alley. She was a member from 1975 to 1979. She played lead roles in the musical theatre productions Mata Hari and Angel, written by David Rimmer and Edward Knoll, in the early 1980s.

Before being signed to GRP and hitting it big in pop/jazz and crossover, pianist David Benoit recorded several albums for the tiny AVI label. Bluemoon in the early '90s reissued those sets on CD including this early date. Benoit, on piano, electric piano and synthesizer, performs seven of his originals along with a rhythm section that includes solos from guitarist Michael Miller plus a string section.

This CD features tenor-saxophonist Pharoah Sanders accompanied by a supportive rhythm section (pianist William Henderson, bassist Charles Fambrough and drummer Sherman Ferguson). Although there are some passionate moments, this is actually one of his mellower sessions and he explores such songs as "Naima" and "After the Rain" in a ballad style not that different than John Coltrane's of the early '60s. There are some heated moments on some of the other selections (such as "Wise One" and "Crescent") but Sanders's trademark screeches are at a minimum this time around.
