She's Having a Baby [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] Review by William Ruhlmann
She's Having a Baby was the last in a series of 1980s coming-of-age movies written and usually directed by John Hughes, following Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), Pretty in Pink (1986), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), and Some Kind of Wonderful (1987). In the earlier films, Hughes had focused on high school, but She's Having a Baby traced the lives of a young couple from marriage to the birth of their first child. It was a comedy-drama examining American middle-class mores in the '80s, and Stewart Copeland's score matched its tone, while such musical inclusions as the male lead character's labored attempt at procreation to the tune of Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang" added humorous elements.

1971 stands as an odd, rather surreal year in British pop history: while American soft-rockers and singer-songwriters were dominating the album charts, the year in which the country ch-ch-changed over to decimal currency saw the homegrown pop/rock scene becoming increasingly eccentric. Peephole In My Brain documents the progressive-pop sounds of the year as the underground rock scene crossed over to the mainstream. The 71 tracks from ’71 include major hits for the likes of Curved Air, Atomic Rooster and John Kongos as well as a selection of key album cuts from Procol Harum, ELP, Magna Carta, Barclay James Harvest, Cressida, Help Yourself, Legend and many others.

originally a british manufacturer of televisions and radios, pye records was formed in 1959 with a vision to release pop music by british artists. pye was the last of the major record companies to release a 45rpm single, but once it finally embraced the format in 1960 both pye and it’s little sister, piccadilly records, gave these british girls their voice and spawned a host of fantastic femme-pop 45s that provided the soundtrack to the colourful, confident and downright fun place that was swinging sixties britain, and it is in these companies catalogues that we find our inspiration for this compilation of some of the finest british female pop ever recorded. it includes hits & obscure songs from petula clark, tawny reed, val mckenna, the caravelles, sandra barry and many more.

Gather together beneath the sun as we journey through the rhythmic sands of time, Paul Hillery, an esteemed collector and vinyl hunter, presents his follow-up to the highly acclaimed "We Are The Children Of The Sun." Andrew Male of MOJO Magazine calls the album "One of the most emotionally uplifting and hazily beautiful compilations of recent years." "Once Again We Are The Children Of The Sun" is a shimmering collection of rare finds, reminding us that we have more to connect us than to divide us. The music encompasses a broad range of sounds, starting in Cajun country with Will & James Ragar, their handmade acoustic guitars allowing for soaring vocals. Along with many of the tracks featured on this compilation, "As the Day Grows Tired" is reissued on vinyl for the first time.

In 1980 Dexy’s Midnight Runners talked of a “new soul vision”. They were referring to their own music but they and other groups including The Jam through covers of soul songs such as ‘Seven Days Too Long’ (Dexy’s), ‘One Way Love’ (Dexy’s), ‘Big Bird’ (The Jam) and ‘Move On Up’ (The Jam) inspired a new generation of teenagers to seek out the originals then go deeper. ‘Ain’t Nothing But A House Party’ provides a soundtrack to those exciting times, a celebration of 60s and early 70s soul that filled dance floors again in the 80s.
