Variational Formulation of Fluid and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics: Mechanics, Symmetries and Conservation Laws (Repost)

Variational Formulation of Fluid and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics: Mechanics, Symmetries and Conservation Laws by Gualtiero Badin
English | EPUB | 2018 | 224 Pages | ISBN : 3319596942 | 3.1 MB

This book describes the derivation of the equations of motion of fluids as well as the dynamics of ocean and atmospheric currents on both large and small scales through the use of variational methods. In this way the equations of Fluid and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics are re-derived making use of a unifying principle, that is Hamilton’s Principle of Least Action.

Characteristics Finite Element Methods in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Characteristics Finite Element Methods in Computational Fluid Dynamics by Joe Iannelli
English | PDF | 2006 | 744 Pages | ISBN : 3540251812 | 12.8 MB

This book details a systematic characteristics-based finite element procedure to investigate incompressible, free-surface and compressible flows. The fluid dynamics equations are derived from basic thermo-mechanical principles and the multi-dimensional and infinite-directional upstream procedure is developed by combining a finite element discretization of a characteristics-bias system with an implicit Runge-Kutta time integration. For the computational solution of the Euler and Navier Stokes equations, the procedure relies on the mathematics and physics of multi-dimensional characteristics. As a result, the procedure crisply captures contact discontinuities, normal as well as oblique shocks, and generates essentially non-oscillatory solutions for incompressible, subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic inviscid and viscous flows.

Geophysical Fluid Dynamics by Joseph Pedlosky
English | PDF | 1987 | 723 Pages | ISBN : 0387963871 | 52.4 MB

This second edition of the widely acclaimed Geophysical Fluid Dynamics by Joseph Pedlosky offers the reader a high-level, unified treatment of the theory of the dynamics of large-scale motions of the oceans and atmosphere. Revised and updated, it includes expanded discussions of * the fundamentals of geostrophic turbulence * the theory of wave-mean flow interaction * thermocline theory * finite amplitude barocline instability.
Proceedings of the 4th International Seminar on Non-Ideal Compressible Fluid Dynamics for Propulsion and Power

Proceedings of the 4th International Seminar on Non-Ideal Compressible Fluid Dynamics for Propulsion and Power by Martin White, Tala El Samad, Ioannis Karathanassis, Abdulnaser Sayma, Matteo Pini, Alberto Guardone
English | PDF EPUB | 2023 | 242 Pages | ISBN : 3031309359 | 58.9 MB

This book collects the main contributions from the 4th edition of the NICFD conference, organized by the Special Interest Group on Non-Ideal Compressible Fluid Dynamics (SIG- 49). It provides some of the latest research findings in the field of NICFD, relevant to a number of engineering applications related to the conversion of renewable and waste energy sources, like, e.g., organic Rankine cycles, super-critical CO2 cycle power plants, combustors operating with supercritical fluids, and heat pumps. The book reports on research encompassing theoretical, computational, and experimental aspects of the gas-dynamics of non-ideal reactive and non-reactive flows and their impact for the design of internal-flow components (turbomachinery, heat exchangers, combustors). All chapters address challenges related to characterizing the behaviour of non-ideal fluids, where state-of-the-art models are used to predict the thermo-physical properties of both pure and multi-phase fluids.
